This may not be like your typical post on here because I’m not actually asking for any help. I’m telling of my experience with VEGAS Pro and how I’ve used it. If these types of posts are seen as useless, then my apologies. This can then be a useless and meaningless post (😜).

MY EXPERIENCE WITH VEGAS PRO
I first saw and tried to use Sony Vegas Pro back when it was either Sony Vegas Video or Sony Vegas Pro 9.0 (I just Googled it to make sure). When I first tried to use it I found it kind of difficult and coming from using Corel VideoStudio the layout seemed rather weird. I didn’t get very far because I judged it too early and didn’t even know whether or not you could alter the layout.
OTHER NLE SOFTWARE I HAVE USED
I was so used to using Ulead (now Corel) VideoStudio and used to doing lower thirds in a way that I didn’t see anyone else doing, like using masks and certain transitions to make my lower thirds fade in from the middle and back out to the middle. I can imagine this is pretty simple to do in the latest version of Corel VideoStudio.
GETTING BACK TO VEGAS PRO
I first started really using Vegas Pro early on and started with version 10. I taught myself the ins and outs of it and really began to like it. What I noticed about Vegas Pro was that it (perhaps an obvious thing) allowed vastly more creativity. Everything you import into Vegas Pro is treated as a video and thus you can animate it and do whatever creative thing you want to do. It was quite amazing to me, especially coming from Corel VideoStudio, how versatile (if I’m using that word correctly and in the correct sense) and flexible it was in what you could do.
These days I am an avid (oh, there ya go, another company’s name who makes video editing software and I wasn’t even trying to mention them 😁) VEGAS Pro user and I’ve taught myself so much of it that going to another NLE would be kinda hard. I will admit, I think I have tried some other NLEs earlier on because I wanting to move on from the limitations of VideoStudio because the last version I had, many years ago, X2 or 12, worked really sluggish in Windows 7.
OTHER NLE SOFTWARE THAT I HAVE TRIED
I tried one NLE that I cannot remember the name of (which is helpful, I know) and also, IIRC, Adobe’s non pro version of its video editing software but it was not my cup of tea, so to speak (yes, I like cups tea - white and one please 😜).
VEGAS PRO USER FOR LIFE (POSSIBLY)
I have settled on Vegas Pro for life, I think (unless something better and more capable comes along. After using Vegas Pro for so long I tried DaVinci Resolve, since many were saying how good it was. But, it too, wasn’t to my liking. I think I have been spoilt with VEGAS Pro and don’t really see myself departing from it.
VEGAS PRO BUGS
Now, getting onto the bugs. I usually just get out my fly swat and ask Howie Duit and he swats them for them for me. Howie does a lot around here. I think he’s overworked and underpaid...just saying. He’s brothers Howie Dunit, Howie Wilduit, and Howie Cannotduit (yes his mother gave them all the same first name for some reason). On a serious note, I haven’t really noticed any in VEGAS Pro 15 that people have mentioned. Perhaps I’m not using all of Vegas Pros capabilities. I don’t know, but it just works for me. It could come down to various system configurations. My system configuration is in my sig if you want to know the specs.
Anyway, that has been my experience with VEGAS Pro and I can honestly say that..I like it a lot!
I first used VEGAS Pro on a HP Pavilion desktop (with various upgrades along the way) and it’s latest specs were as follows:
- Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.4GHz
- Stock Intel Cooler
- Generic Gigabyte Motherboard
- 4GB DDR2 Memory (4x1GB)
- Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSD (this sped up this system a lot and dramatically reduced my boot times by a whole minute down to just 20 minutes, which was quite nice).
- Samsung 500GB HDD
- NVIDIA GT 430 W/ 1GB GDDR3 vRAM
- HP Pavilion Case
- Some Unknown 300W Power Supply
Now, to say the upgrade to my Rocket Ship, as my Dad calls it, which is an all AMD system, that I now have and I am very blessed to have and don’t take it for granted, was quite a dramatic upgrade for me, is an understatement. Just the sheer power difference and capabilities of my new system has been awesome. The obvious differences have been the CPU, graphics card, and the memory. It is truly my dream PC!
I hope I haven’t made this too long but wanted share all this. 🙂
Cheers,
Matt
