NB Titler Pro: do not use the link in the email

NicolSD wrote on 4/27/2012, 2:58 PM
I had questions regarding the new Titler Pro version released today and sent an inquiry to the sales department at NewBlueFX. It turns out there is a bug in that version and it is the full retail version, not the one intended for Vegas Pro 11 users. Here is the content of the email with a link to the file we are supposed to download.

"Thank you for contacting NewBlueFX. I sincerely apologize for the confusion, the email that we sent out to our users today announcing availability of a new Titler Pro build inadvertently only included a link to our retail version. We have since discovered a bug where this retail version will not correctly read titles created by the version of Titler that was bundled with Vegas Pro 11. As such, I would recommend uninstalling the version of Titler that you downloaded earlier today, and installing this version instead:

The 'Check for Updates' in NBTPro Help states that 'an updated version 120411 is available for upload', even though you have 120402 installed.
However, confirming what Nicol says in his post, this was just added to the update info window there
Vegas Users: Please use the Vegas Pro 11 version (build 120402) with all of these same updates found here:

I got the email this morning and this afternoon I got the correction email.

So my question is what is different if anything between the retail version and the Vegas version?

The retail version plugs into Premiere Pro, Vegas Pro, Edius 6 and Avid Media Composer 5 and 6. The Vegas Pro version only works in Vegas and nowhere else.

I've not tried the update yet and will report back. I'm wondering why anyone would buy this for PPro when there are better alternatives that include all the effects and transitions that you have to buy separately for NB TP. I mean, instead of buying NB TP and all their other plugins for it you could buy a Boris FX plugin for nearly the same price.

This is the version that I want to work.
Seems like good business sense for NewBlue to have a working version that can plug into all the NLE's as apposed to only Vegas.

Don't get me wrong, I love BorixFX (I have the black box kit for Windows) but it doesn't have any titling that will work directly within Premiere Pro. NB Titler Pro works as a plug-in directly in Premiere. However, from what I have read in the instructions, it is rather clumsy for things like lengthening the time the text is on the screen.

The current version is build 120402 for Vegas Pro 11. I know the "Check for Updates" will show 120411 as available but you will also see one of the "fixes" is to stay on build 120402 in Vegas. Build 120402 has all the same new features found in the e-mail - basically Vegas users got the update first.

As for people having issues with the titler, I still recommend help tickets at NewBlue. We are working through the tickets. I can say with confidence that it's working fine on more systems than are having issues. The version of the video driver plays an important role as does the video card itself.

Then please specify what video driver version is known to work with 120402.

It depends on the video card. Generally speaking, the newer the better. However, I have seen some people with ATI cards indicate Catalyst 12.4 crashes while Catalyst 12.2 works fine.

I haven't seen any specific issues with nVidia versions 296.10 or newer (depending on the card)

Intel cards have significant issues as they do not properly support what's needed for the GPU.

Then, finally, there's the video cards that run in multiple modes:
1. Full powered fully compatible mode
2. Low powered not compatible mode

You must make sure those video cards are running in full powered mode in Vegas is running. This is typically laptop cards but there are some desktop cards that do this as well.

Ed,
I am using the nVidia 296.10 driver and the ONLY reliable version of NBT on VP11/595 is build 111213. Ticket has been open a while.

See System #1 specs in my profile.
