Need advice on which software to purchase

Keith-Shevlin wrote on 2/12/2022, 3:59 PM

I have a GoPro 9 Hero that is not compatiable with my old Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 7.0. I think it is a much newer video encoding which was bound to happen. I also want a NLE that gives me chroma keying and decent text options.

What is my best option for the lowest cost? I am wanting to do maybe 5 minute max videos. Mos tof my work will be 25 seconds max.

Also - I was a little put off on the price advertising for Pro. It shows that the pricing is from 11.99 a month. However I went buy it and it requires a full year. Itried to find the monthly option that does not exist. I searched a competitor's site and they had the option. Why not just say that you have a full year at the full amount? The buy page then says, "Amounts to $11.99 a month." .....yeah - not cool in my opinion but someone in marketing thought it was.

This "blue arrow" business is in my opinion very misleading. I wonder how many potential customers Vegas loses because like with Keith above the other options aren't easily noticed. It wasn't like this a few years ago. All options used to be clearly visible.

Also the term "Choose a payment plan" indicates alternative means of paying the periodic billing. It should really say "Choose purchase options" or something similar.

Interestingly the Magix video editors are up front and not misleading. One gets the impression Magix are trying to kill VEGAS!

@EricLNZ I agree on your points. But re the topic, would you advise the OP to consider a MAGIX product instead?

@vkmast Personally no. I much prefer the Vegas workflow. I only included the Magix image as a comparison. Last time I looked I'm sure it had the same "blue arrow" and I was going to comment that Magix products have the same misleading approach. But when I found that it was no longer the case it fired me up 😟

Right now I am doing the Vegas monthly plan. Should not be this hard to find pricing options. I tried the free trial so I know my computer meets the specs. That is why I wanted to do a licensed version. Thank you for your help everyone.

@vkmast I keep my MEP up to date & the performance is impressive, i exported a 1hr 4k project in 12mins the other day as a test & it plays 4k with transitions very well at a good preview quality but.. at the moment the Size/Position & the Section controls are a bit messed up, also 'I also want a NLE that gives me chroma keying and decent text options.' chroma keying & text controls are very basic in MEP,

Being a consumer who only makes a few short videos in a year speed of rendering is very low on my priorities. So are fancy transitions and FX. Media management, masking, keyframe control and audio mixing are probably more important to me. The introduction of Bezier masking in VMS Plat 16 was great.

The OP stated in his original post that one of the things he wanted was chroma-keying. Given that he's cited $11.99 pm, that indicates that he's opted for Vegas Pro rather than Edit. The Vegas Pro option includes Boris FX Primatte Studio, one of the best chroma-keyers in the biz.
