New Feature Request -- 4k Bluray burning

ggrussell wrote on 9/19/2017, 10:20 AM

Be the first to have this feature! I need a way to burn 4K H264 and H265 4K Video to a bluray disc with menus. Support for the new Bluray single , dual , triple and quad layer discs should also be available. We have consumer 4K camcorders. We have 4k consumer bluray burners and discs. We have 4k editing, but we don't have any way to burn 4k to a disc.

This is something we really need. I want a way to archive reliably my 4K footage-even mobile phones record in 4K now and we still can't burn a 4K disc. Please sort this out!

The impression I get from comments on several forums is that we shouldn't expect to ever get 4K 'home burnt' disc creation. It's not just DVDA that is in this situation.

I'm not talking about the 'certified' 4k 66GB like a commercial 4K disc. There should be no reason we can't burn Bluray single, dual , triple or Quad layer using the 'Bluray' standard we already have, but using 4k resolutions. Granted these would only play on a 4K capable player or possibly PC.

Right now, I can burn a 4K H264 or HEVC file as data on a disc and it plays fine on my LG UP970. Just would be nice to have a custom menu.

Gary, read John Rofrano's posts in this thread.

Thanks for confirming that 4K will play on a 4K Blu-ray disc player when burnt as a data disc. I had wondered.

I've read that thread and so many seem to be hung up on the commercial 4K standard. Personally, I don't think a home burnt disc needs to adhere to that to make it playback. Home 4K disc could easily be H264 (instead of H265 HEVC) with a menu. 4K Bluray player should have no problem playing them back.

I don't see what would stop them making DVD Architect able to create UHD Blu-ray. The original Blu-ray standard was initially similarly opaque and required similar software to create discs etc but eventually the ability to do so filtered down to consumers. I hope it's a feature they give priority to.

This comment in a related thread includes this link, where this topic is discussed rather extensively maybe revealing reasons as to priority as well.

Thanks for the link, but have already read that. Again, How can Magix know what consumers want unless we let them know? Like many other discussions on this topic, that thread also seems to be 'stuck' on the UHD Commercial Disc requirements , too. See my post above on 11/29. My 4k Bluray will play ANY file that I have tried on it. I see no reason why standard Bluray menu structure wouldn't work with 4K file. If I knew how to code, I would just try it myself.

Thanks for the comment. I had already read your post above on 11/29. My comment was intended to point to some requirements a software company may need to consider, not to restrict your right to let them know. Sorry if you got that impression.
