Periodic Black Screens during Rendering

Curtis-Suter wrote on 12/4/2022, 9:54 AM

For two days now I have tried everything I can think of to get a simple 30min video production to render. It always renders but when playing back there are periods where the video goes blank, audio is still good. I have tried the following not in any order:
Deleted and reinstalled, updated Codec's, updated Nvidea, changed Switches Disable Resample, Preferences-Video-GPU Acceleration OFF, All different formats, mov, mpg etc....
Still no joy on doing a simple render.

Win10 64bit OS ver 22H2 Geforce GT1030 video card, 16G Ram
Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Curtis

How long are the blank areas? Just flashes or a few seconds.

Have a look at the areas on the timeline to see what you are doing at the problem areas.

Which VMS version and build are you using?

The black areas were in minutes. The timeline looked great, also the preview during rendering never showed the black areas.
I think I figured it out. I'm 2 for 2 anyway so fingers crossed. It was one of two things or both. Not sure. I changed Preferences File I/O Hardware Decoder to Use to OFF. Also changed Preferences Video Dynamic RAM Preview Max to zero and Maximum Number of rendering threads to 2. Not sure what those do but so far so good. Thanks for the reply.

They were supposed to have fixed that, but the evidence suggests they didn't. Not to say that actually is your problem, but it's characteristic of your problem, black flashes (frames not decoding) that lead to very long areas of no decoded frames that eventually come back and start decoding again. The fix DRP = 0

If indeed you are still with VMS then you better get VP18 at HB for 25$ .

Not sure I use it enough to warrant that but $25 may be too good of a deal to pass up. Where's HB? Thanks
