@DougT thank you for your gentle and informative video. I found the narration just right for the subject. Maybe some subtle Ken Burns effects on the static shots would help blend them in with the moving video. I feel that videos of this nature can get a 'lift' to the next level by thinking about the background music. The music you have chosen sets an appropriate mood without drawing attention to itself. Before long, however, it gets repetitive and this is particularly obvious during the static shots. This can leave the viewer with the impression that the video itself is repetitive and 'goes nowhere' (which is not the case).

Vegas does a good job of cross-fading audio tracks so you could possibly try the following. At the start - use existing music; story of car - crossfade to automobile music; domestic quarters - domestic music with an inset of period music with radio static for the fireside chat technology; outdoor shots to end - back to original music. This would give some textural contrasts and assist with the story telling.

Once again thank you for this visual guide to a little slice of history.

But besides of that, hopefully the message we made in this video - able to help local communities about this global plastic issue.

@set thanks for sharing this. Besides the excellence in editing (as usual for you), as a SCUBA diver, I've participated in several beach cleanups and removing plastics on the dives.

Sad how careless people are with waste. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for sharing this - and congratulations to you and your team.

We have to start buying as little of it as necessary and finally learn to deal responsibly with waste - so that such commendable actions as you show us here are best not necessary at all.

I made an upbeat piece of music in Reaper and got very lucky finding some looping Pixabay footage that fitted it nicely. So I'm afraid I can't take credit for these dancing figures. I did have a bit of fun with the middle part. My playing is so shocking that I ended up playing along at 50% speed and doubled it in post. The "banded" fade effect at the start of my "drumming" and end of the guitar were done by animating the "Smooth Source" parameter of the Ignite Posterize FX. Constructive feedback welcome.

Nice work. I'd bring those bongo samples down when you start drumming on the pad, they're a bit loud in the mix.

This is a very simple, short video (37 seconds). It was a test that demonstrates a few things:
1. Camera-phone sensors have gotten pretty good (this was shot on Pixel 5)
2. FilmicPro log-V2 and VEGAS LUT filter de-log to Rec.709 work well
3. Handheld panning is difficult to get smooth, but shooting at 1/48 shutter speed helps
4. The only way I know to shoot at 1/48 shutter in daylight is with a neutral density filter (this shot uses a Moment ND32 filter)
5. The manual focus and rack focus tools on FilmicPro allow shots I didn't expect were possible on a phone

Although I didn't have problems with the opening, it sounds like your program may have triggered Youtube's loudness penalty about here:

Try dropping your master volume (-6dB?) and upload to YT.

On Sunday of last weekend (4 July 2021), Steamrail Victoria (Australia) - a heritage railway museum - ran steam-hauled shuttle services on one of Melbourne's suburban train lines. Even though the weather was cold, blustery and at times very wet (it is the middle of winter after all), I grabbed the AX100, tripod and some sound gear and went to a number of locations along the railway line to get some shots and sounds of the two beautifully restored steam engines. Aah! The smell of a steam engine took me back to my childhood.

Most of the editing was done on Monday and Tuesday, but after getting back from several days away in a regional town, some fine-tuning was done today. Also, this is my first post on YouTube.

In retrospect, I should have uploaded it in HD, not 4K because pan/crop was used heavily in a couple of shots.

Any comments will be much appreciated.

Very nice film - reminds me a lot of my childhood and youth - of course with other train models (I am from Austria - not Australia).

From my point of view, the only point of possible improvement would be - a bit of suitable music (i.e. Locomotiv Breath 😊) at times when no train is passing by, and a sparse commentary or subtitles for the train models.

What I noticed very pleasantly is that the subtitles remain long enough for me to finish reading 😉.

Thanks for showing it.

@Dexcon like with @walter-i. it brought back memories of how people traveled by rail. No, it's not as fast as today's rapid rail transit, but it offers you the opportunity to see what is around you while you travel.

Some music would be nice, but overall, I find it relaxing. I watched it on Youtube. What camera did you use?

@Reyfox  ... Thank you very much for your comment. Yes, there is a vast difference between travelling on a steam train as against travelling on, say, a 320 kph (200 mph) TGV in France.

What was great on the Sunday was that there were so many families with toddlers and young children out to watch the steam train - and the drivers were not shy about sounding the engine's whistle for the kids. But in Victoria it is State law for train drivers to sound the whistle when approaching any level, pedestrian and work/farm crossing.

The camera was a Sony FDR-AX100E shot at 4K @ 100 Mpbs. The microphone was a Rode Stereo VideoMic Pro Rycote. I also had a Sennheiser MKE 600 shotgun mic (mounted on the camera) into a Tascam recorder, but the Rode mic did a much better job in this situation.

A lot of the editing time was taken up with cleaning up the audio in SpectraLayers Pro 8 to get rid of wind noise - which wasn't too bad given how wintry and windy it was that day. Also, a couple of the shooting locations were at pedestrian only crossings across the tracks, and the warning bells are incredibly annoying, so I used SpectraLayers to completely remove those warning bells just leaving the train sounds and ambience. And SpectraLayers was used to reduce by up to 20 dB the very prominent level crossing bells at the Latrobe St level crossing.
