Shot this today, from a helicopter, assisted with a gyro stabilizer, and edited with Vegas Pro 19. I did some additional stabilization with Mercalli. It was pretty bumpy up there.

"I guess a drone was not an option." @FayFen ...Drone was not an option for a variety of reasons. 1.) Prohibited by the Navy. 2.) Prohibited by the Port. 3.) Prohibited by the adjacent major airport. 4.) Required going above 500' at times (400' max for drones). 5.) Required being in the air for almost an hour, as these vessels move VERY slowly going through the channel. No civilian drones I know of can stay up that long.

@Reyfox That is not red tide. Certain times of the year, there is a LOT of seaweed. And when the wind is from the east (as it was), a lot of that seaweed ends up along the shore. At the more utilized sections of the beach, a large tractor pulling a huge "rake" cleans up much of the seaweed every morning, before the beach is occupied.

@Len Kaufman thanks! I was in that area a few years ago and didn't notice anything out of the ordinary.

@Reyfox I was using the Canon XA50 with a Kenlab KS6 gyro underneath it. Just recently got that camera, and super impressed with it for just about everything except the LCD screen (too small). I'm coming from the Canon C100mk2, which has a more usable LCD.

@Reyfox My favorite, for this type of work: Robinson 44. Left rear door off. Best balance between stability and cost.

Shot in Nassau, Bahamas on a cloudy grey day, color corrected - to create faux sunny day w blue sky - mostly with 3rd party and Vegas tools, (especially filter packages, using '3D LUT Creator,' not the new color correction panel, don't like lack of KB adjustment, i.e., mouse only), sweat on skin correction: Hit Film Pro, running inside Vegas, some Davinci Resolve, kids voices recorded at Compass Point Studios, Tracked in Adobe Audition and Samplitude, Mixed in Samplitude.

DJ Floor........
Nice work, mate, and indeed, Vegas has always had some magical tools that with just some imagination, are there for the taking. I did something once, similar, taking two side photos of a building and creating a virtual 3d rendering that was fairly convincing. Just regular stills, no 3d camera. The 3d effect breaks down somewhat, but that is not the fault of Vegas.

DJ Floor Using Media Generator & 3D compositing

In this lyrics video the text goes out of focus when near the camera is it easy to do the same with what you made by changing a setting?

Can you do the other effects in Vegas?

@xberk It’s originally vector artwork, intended to look like construction paper stop motion animation. In this case the animation is done by keyframing dozens of nested tracks of static assets that are being fully composited in Vegas.

Basically just two apps are being used - a vector graphics program to create the raw static artwork, and Vegas Pro to put it all together.

@OrangeShark I'm sure there's many ways of doing that

Musicvid wrote on 8/2/2022, 9:15 PM

@daniel-t Brilliant!

Only a couple of things need to be done to make your video fully compliant for broadcast. The quality is already there.

Since Vegas imports graphics in unmanaged space, one needs to use the Computer->Studio RGB fx on the animation output. The appearance will be "slightly" more saturated, but the big difference is that it will be fully compliant with BT 709 standard.

The audio, as I said, is fine for streaming and social media; however, it needs to be lowered -6dB for US and EU broadcast, or it will be automatically limited during real time, which is not necessarily the nicest thing to do.

Having devoured the original Southpark series when it was released, I think I like your brand of social commentary just a little better. Keep up the good work; this may be a money gig for you!

daniel-t wrote on 8/3/2022, 12:06 AM

@Musicvid thanks so much for the comments! They’re very motivating.

I’m a bit confused on the levels conversion - the project is set to 8-bit full range, which I thought was supposed to automatically convert to studio levels upon rendering? At least according to:

https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/vp18-notes-on-the-8-bit-full-level-option--122749/

I used to have the levels FX on all my videos, and in fact when I started the first one of these I was still using Vegas 13, forgot to do that, and was wondering why on my test render blacks were crushed and whites were blooming. Then I remembered. But when I upgraded to VP19 I thought I could skip that step, unless there’s still some other conversion necessary? Or am I just hopelessly confused here?

And yes, I do tend to push my audio levels to between -1 and 0 with like zero headroom; just a streaming mentality thing I guess. Although I’m highly doubtful I’ll ever need to worry about being broadcast compliant!
