I’m a bit confused on the levels conversion - the project is set to 8-bit full range, which I thought was supposed to automatically convert to studio levels upon rendering? At least according to:

https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/vp18-notes-on-the-8-bit-full-level-option--122749/

That is correct, except with RGB still images on the timeline, which open in Vegas in Unmanaged color space, not BT709/sRGB. So on the tracks populated by still images, the Levels conversion must be used, or they will come back slightly clipped on streaming, and probably not accepted by broadcasters.

It's a common mistake and one that is not well documented. Here's another consequence. Note that when we import AdobeRGB or ProPhoto still images into Vegas for instance, we must use a LUT.

I won't be doing any of this, but what software are you creating you cels in?

@daniel-t, your work is so good that I am in awe, and I believe you are headed for syndication, as long as you do nothing else with your life.

In this lyrics video the text goes out of focus when near the camera is it easy to do the same with what you made by changing a setting?

Can you do the other effects in Vegas?

@OrangeShark I'm sure there's many ways of doing that

That was easy, I was over thinking it with special settings for a 3d camera. Thanks!

From what I saw, it's not 100%, but for major parts it is.

This is the bike: https://www.spedagi.com/rodacilik-eng

I use Insta360 One X2 camera, attached* to the handlebar of the bike and do post-reframe first using insta360 studio app. (Although for this type I can use the Scene Rotation & Tiny Planet OFX)

*Sometimes I feel amazed to those who can do shooting, even though just using cellphones, by holding that cameras while riding. I tried few times but still not comfortable with that as I have to keep focus on the 'vehicle' that I ride, and for the bike, that means I must be more focused and keep aware on the asphalt road, be more cautious with potholes or other vehicles' immediate brakes.

@set, truly and interesting concept in bike frames.

many years ago, when I was younger, riding with no hands was normal. Now? I am much taller than I was as a youngster, and the center of gravity on my 29" LaPierre is higher. I have much farther to fall, and have no desire to destroy whatever camera gear I might be holding on to, to film. I see people riding and texting all the time.

Love the music in the video too!

Robocalls are annoying and must be stopped..

Recently, FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel said:
“We are not going to tolerate robocall scammers or those that help make their scams possible.  Consumers are out of patience and I’m right there with them.”

I'm skeptical that they can succeed. I made a little film a bit ago that wonders if, in our zeal, we will go foo far.

This video is me showing the steps I took to build a short bookcase. It is a cam on a tripod and me with music and VO using my mid-west mumble. It is not a how-to, but just the steps I took. I suffered a traumatic hand injury when I ran it into the tablesaw, so the end might seem a bit rushed. I had to wait about 3 months to finish it. Runs about 15 minutes. Audio was created in Cakewalk. Enjoy!

@Former user thanks for watching. If you check my channel, I show the video of the accident. It happens in two video frames and not much gore, but I am still going through therapy to get my fingers working again. Lucky I didn't lose them. Thanks again.

So, here’s my third try at doing animation entirely in Vegas (19) with zero budget and minimal plugins. This definitely was a more complex project to figure out, with an ungodly number of keyframes!

Still trying to sort out audio levels… I think I need more tools than I have to make things perfect.

Musicvid wrote on 9/4/2022, 6:01 PM

Hi @daniel-t, your audio is fine: -19LUFS.

Your video levels are also very good. Ready for prime time.

Again, Brilliant Work!

daniel-t wrote on 9/4/2022, 6:26 PM

@Musicvid What tools can I use to see the LUFS like that? And what are ideal maximums?

I switched to 8-bit legacy and used the levels plug-in this time, at least for the final render.

Musicvid wrote on 9/4/2022, 6:50 PM

Vegas Loudness Meters. Play your program all the way through. -15 Integrated LUFS (actually LKFS) for streaming, -23 for broadcast.

You did the 8 bit Legacy project perfectly. I still prefer it for many things. Preliminary indications are that the Image->Unmanaged Colorspace bug may be resolved in a coming release of VP20.

Might consider adding a subtitle track.

Musicvid wrote on 9/4/2022, 7:21 PM

I think you should do a Tutorial about how you are doing this stuff. It's definitely cutting-edge for Vegas.

Can I post your work on my Facebook page?

daniel-t wrote on 9/4/2022, 10:33 PM

@Musicvid Thanks for the comments! I would actually greatly appreciate you sharing.

For the next video I did a number of things differently with recording and audio processing to hopefully improve overall quality (some of which I backported to this one, though I couldn’t quite get it the same). I seriously can’t believe how long a good audio mix takes. Thanks for the screenshot on setting up the loudness meters correctly - was trying to figure out why I was getting +4 and not -19!

I do manually create YouTube subtitle tracks for these vids (as the auto-generated one is worse than useless), but haven’t embedded anything into the actual file. I do have a script, but it’s not timecoded.

I could work on a tutorial. This whole thing is based on a technical idea that’s been rattling around the back of my head for nearly a decade. “If I could do this and this in Vegas, then why couldn’t I…” until I finally went and tried it.

Much of it boils down to having a very ordered and logical project structure - a lot of time has gone into just creating and continually refining a starting template. Every time I go to do something new, no matter how trivial it might seem, I have to figure out how to accomplish it efficiently within Vegas’ built-in abilities - which hasn’t always been easy to sort (masking multiple layers has been a bear), but so far I haven’t had to leave an idea off the table because I couldn’t do it.

Goes to show Vegas’ great versatility!
