I am having the same problem. Have Movie Studio 13. Simple mode, I assume, since I cannot drag the splitter line. I tried ctrl+shift option when starting the program which did not help. I would like to reset to default settings, however, the link @vkmast has posted no longer exists. Anybody has any idea?

@brownster

Movie Studio Platinum 13 has Simple and Advanced Edit Modes. You should be able to easily choose one or the other in the Toolbar. See the other thread you posted in for the reset link. In the basic version you cannot resize windows, so resetting is not helping that. It's reported to have helped, if the default layout has gone wrong.

@vkmast - thank you, I got it to a usable state finally with your help. So, my issue was, I have Movie Studio 13 (not platinum), so cannot resize and my preview window was like 1cm wide. I did a reset by holding CTRL+SHIFT when clicking on the executable. Did not help. Then, I did a reset by holding CTRL+SHIFT the entire time the program was starting and released when UI was visible. This seemed to make the preview window disappear altogether. Then I checked "Automatically hide docking area" in the Options>Preferences>Display" and restarted. This did not help, however, then when I tried the CTRL+SHIFT holding method again, the preview window came back as a floating window, so it is not docked and can be resized to liking. The only downside is that it is on top of some UI, but it can be moved around. Hope this helps someone.

@brownster this seems a bit odd. Did you see the window to place a checkmark, when you reset? And to confirm something, can you tell which version and build Nos. (see Help > About...) you have?

@vkmast - sorry for the delay. No, I did not see any windows to place a checkmark. I only get the regular Windows User Access Control pop up with Yes/No when holding down the CTRL+SHIFT.
However, I figured out the issue. I was launching my Movie Studio from the taskbar and that is why I did not get the pop up. When I went into File Explorer and actually launched it by double-clicking on the actual executable, I got the pop up with the checkmark box and everything was reset.

Thanks again for all your help.

@brownster thanks for coming back with the clarification to remind us that it's important to get the cache cleared.

That's the last build of the basic Sony Movie Studio 13 64-bit. As said, several users have reported "the same problem" with this version.
