Price Highly Dependent upon Region

I have Vegas Pro and love it so I decided to purchase Vegas Movie Studio Platinum Production Suite for my father.

I live in Japan, my father lives back in the UK.

I find that there is a very great difference in price depending upon the region.

The price in UK pounds as a download from Sonycreativesoftare is just less than 77 UK pounds (9400 yen) but the price in Japanese yen is18300 yen which is 150 UK pounds or about double.

The price differential increases still further when comparing amazon prices in Japan and the UK, 15,540 yen from amazo.co.jp (127 UKP) and only 34UKP from amazon.co.uk.

Needless to say I have purchased my present for my father from amazon.co.uk

I am sad to find that I have been paying a Japanese company
inflated prices for the English language download,
due to the fact that I am resident in Japan.

Sony can price its produts in whatever way it pleases but I would
have thought that the negative PR would have prevented such a strategy. I think that Japanese people should be told. Am I allowed
to post this post? Can I follow this up with a post in Japanese?

The truth may set us free.

I would consider the possibility it is not Sony at all.
It may be quite possible that it's the tariffs placed on manufacturers by Japan.

I know the same disparity exists with Cakewalk/Sonar products sent to different countries so thought I would throw that out as a possibility.

Carry on...

As we all know, the price is often even more highly dependent upon dealers. You'll find greatly varying retail prices everywhere even in the same region. In the U.S., at a quick glance the current prices of the VMS 11 Platinum Pro seem to vary between $ 61.95 and $ 129.99.
For various reasons, manufacturers' own prices are seldom the lowest, excluding the special offers once in a while.
May be that in Japan manufacturers are still able to apply their recommended (desired) prices more strictly than in many other markets in spite of retail price maintenance restrictions.
