Project & render settings for YouTube from 60p?

NickHope wrote on 1/8/2012, 5:20 AM
Just helping out a mate of mine. He's shooting 60p with a GoPro2, editing in Movie Studio 10, and uploading normal-speed footage to YouTube. Here's an example:

Seems like the frames are getting blended, but surprisingly I see 3 gloves in this still, whereas I might have expected 2, so something weird is happening. Maybe as well as the unwanted blending, it's not quantised to frames?

I suppose ideally he would be best to drop every other frame of the 60p to get 30p. I guess 60p might default to a 1/120 shutter, which could end up a little staccato, but better that than the strobey effect at the moment.

Can anyone confirm what project properties, media/event properties, and render settings he should use to get this looking good?

Nick,

I've cured this problem by "Disabling Resample" on the timeline footage. My source is from a Panasonic TM700, 1920x1080 60p, but the concept should be the same. I use the "Match Media Settings" wizard to set the Project Properties and the "MainConcept" "Internet HD 720p" builtin template.

All this is done in Vegas Pro, I assume there's no reason it doesn't map to"Movie Studio 10"??

In VMStudio 10 & 11, the built-in Internet templates are still under Sony AVC, I think?

"In VMStudio 10 & 11, the built-in Internet templates are still under Sony AVC, I think?Okay, however, I believe the key to Nick's friend's issue is "Disable Resample". This should fix the problem regardless of encoder.

Jerry,
'twas just an addendum to your excellent advice, since you wondered about it mapping to Studio.

Thanks Jerry! He says that's done the trick (at least as far as previewing in his media player anyway).

This is how it looked after disabling resample. A little bit staccato but better. I've advised him to see if he can slow the shutter down at all to give it a bit more motion blur.
