Are you referring to a 365 (subscription) purchase or a perpetual licence purchase where AFAIK credit card details are not retained?

If you purchase a perpetual license, it's a one-time payment. (Currently, "VP19 perpetual version users will get all free VP19 updates".)

If you choose a 365 (subscription) "payment plan", please see "Purchasing details" (quoted here).

andrew-h wrote on 12/30/2021, 5:52 AM

I'm confused it looks like you are referring to two things here, purchase (is that the perpetual license) and subscription (365?). If we go for one time purchase will we be able to remove the debit card from the system?

Dexcon wrote on 12/30/2021, 6:08 AM

Clearly, a subscription needs recorded credit card details so that the ongoing subscription can be regularly charged - in the same way that electricity/gas/internet/etc charges are commonly made.

From my experience, the only way that credit card details are kept on the seller's system for a one-off purchase is if it offers those details to be stored for future purchases. With all my purchases through MAGIX, I've always had to enter anew my credit card details for each purchase. Maybe check out the privacy policy at https://www.vegascreativesoftware.com/us/privacy/

Ok thanks, appreciate this. I guess there might be an argument for purchasing a full years subscription, turning off auto renewal and removing debit card details. Adobe refuse to do this.

The software is for my son who, while great at filming and video editing, has a learning disability which can lead to untold financial issues. Most online retailers/organisations, even the most major (e.g. PayPal) do not recognise or provide for the legalities of power of attorney and usually the licensing and the payment mechanisms are irretrievably linked.

On a separate issue, how do Vegas offerings compare to the likes of Premiere Pro in functionality etc.

Dexcon wrote on 12/30/2021, 6:32 AM

Please take into account that not continuing with a subscription model means that if the subscription is not renewed, access to Vegas Pro is ended until a new monthly/yearly subscription is arranged. A perpetual licence is a permanent licence but without updates after 12 months after purchase.

how do Vegas offerings compare to the likes of Premiere Pro in functionality etc.

In the end, that is up to you to decide after using the trial versions of the NLEs that you are considering. What appeals to one editor may not appeal to another editor.

@Dexcon @andrew-h

Please note that "Purchasing details" re subscriptions state that "The contractual period of [ŧhe] 365 will be automatically extended by 12 (or 1) months at a time until you cancel the agreement".

And currently, as said, "VP19 perpetual version users will get all free VP19 updates"). See also here.

@vkmast  ... very true, but the OP said that he wanted to remove his credit card details ...

I guess there might be an argument for purchasing a full years subscription, turning off auto renewal and removing debit card details.

... which means that his approach is probably not achievable. I have no idea if deleting credit card details is even possible with a subscription but cancelling the credit card with the financial institution would be one way to go about it.

Why not read the Purchasing details before ordering and making note of the cancellation terms? And I for one have posted the link to Purchasing details countless times on the forum.

@andrew-h Re comparisons use @Dexcon's advice above and test for yourself with the trials. Meanwhile

https://www.vegascreativesoftware.com/us/video-editing-academy/ from VEGAS (Marketing) has the following articles (among others)

Thank you, really appreciate that. I'm sure it ought to be obvious to me but I'm struggling with the terminology, e.g "perpetual LICENSE" , "perpetual VERSION", "VP19" and so on...

So far on what I think is the kind of main page I see these:

Purchase
Subscription

Vegas Edit (365)
Vegas Pro (365)
Vegas Post (365)

12 months billed annually
1 month billed monthly
New purchase
Upgrade,

can you possibly help me with a mapping / relation between these terms and those others in this thread.

Many Thanks.

"A perpetual license is one where a software application is sold on a one-time basis and the licensee can then use a copy of the software forever". VP19 =VEGAS Pro 19 and currently the latest version of the software. You'll get all free VP 19 updates (that is, new builds containing bug fixes and possibly new features). You can continue to use it indefinitely even if you don't "upgrade" to a later version.

If you choose a subscription, "you can use the software for as long as you have an active subscription. When the subscription runs out, so does your right to use the software". Please read "Purchasing details".

Please read the product pages here https://www.vegascreativesoftware.com/us/ including

Product comparison here https://www.vegascreativesoftware.com/us/product-comparison/#productMenu which shows what the different product "packages" contain.

The New purchase pricing applies if you do not have a valid serial number of a previous VEGAS software, which would make you eligible for the special Upgrade pricing. The software is the same full product.
