Received Offer to Upgrade from Movie Studio to Vegas Pro 18 Edit

I posted the below message in "Offtopic", but not sure if Vegas Pro user would see it so I'm posted my question here too. Sorry for the clutter.

Been using Movie Studio for years. Currently Movie Studio 17 Platinum. Received an offer to upgrade to Vegas Pro 18 Edit. The offer seems very attractive and seems like a very good deal. Recently, I have been playing with PowerDirector. There are some things I like about it and some things are kind of annoying. I'm very tempted in getting the upgrade to Vegas Pro Edit. I'm wondering if you Vegas Pro maven out there have an opinion - on a Movie Studio user upgrading to Vegas Pro Edit.

Is the learning curve massive? And will the added features or processes help me make better videos - I'm not a professional, but I do make videos and anything that can save me time will be appreciated. And if they're better videos than that's a bonus.

Appreciate any comments - good, bad, positive or negative.. Don't worry I will not hold anyone accountable if I get it and it don't work, but I want to hear what you all think. Appreciate your time.

The best way is you may need to try it via trial version first (limited only up to 2 minutes of render duration).

Since you have been using Movie Studio for years, I'm sure you won't be trouble adapting to Vegas Pro as the basic workflow for both is the same, and you have better image control via videoscopes, plus more features.

I opened the 2 software at the same time, I found that it is nearly the same, the actual difference is that Movie Studio 17 is actually the "cut" feature version of VEGAS Pro 18. Thus, if you want to get more features, go to VEGAS Pro 18, otherwise, if you just use the simpler functions that you think Movie Studio 17 is enough for you already, it is up to you and not really necessary to upgrade.

And please make a difference between Movie Studio (basic version) and Movie Studio Platinum. The basic version is much more "cut" (restricted) than Platinum.

Thanks for the response. I went ahead and just got Vegas Pro 18 Edit. It does look very similar to Movie Studio, but I'm assuming that Movie Studio don't have the same engine and do things different and hopefully better because it carries the name "Vegas Pro". I will play with this. As I said initially, I've been playing with PowerDirector - pretty nice. But there were somethings about it that are very good.

@RayC76 My understanding is that Pro and VMS have the same engine and do things the same. As C.Ducky said a few posts back VMS is a cut down version of Pro. Pro will also open VMS project files but not vice versa.

That may be the case. However, when I looking at the comparison on Vegas's website, I saw a reference that led me to believe that there were some differences. Regardless, I bit the bullet. Whether Vegas Pro Edit will provide me a richer and robust platform to make my simple videos better or faster - time will tell. I have nothing against Movie Studio. i thought I would jump into the Vegas Pro pool and see what's the fuss is all about.

Will that version be on a par with Movie Studio Suite with a few extras as it is Pro, or will there be a huge difference to warrant the extra cost. I have not looked at the features of the various Pro levels and so I do not know the answers to these questions.

VEGAS Pro Edit is the full featured version of VEGAS, the only other upgrades from there are bundles, such as including Sound Forge or VEGAS Effects/VEGAS Image.

Yeah, the main point is that if you know how to use VMS 17, you can use VEGAS Pro 18 without big issue. I just feel that you cannot really know the program is VMS or VEGAS Pro if you just see the appearance of the program without seeing the Program name or its icon in detail. 😂😂

Anyway, it is really a great offer so I already got it.
