Refund Vegas PRO 18 bought from Microsoft Store

Willian-Silva wrote on 12/18/2021, 4:42 PM

I've just bought the "Vegas PRO 18 Edit Windows Store Edition" (version 18.0 - build 528) from the Microsoft Store, but I've been through many issues, it is impossible to use it.

For that reason I'm trying to get a refund, but when I try to get refund via Microsoft Store, they request to contact the Software vendor and when I try to contact Vegas, they require the subscription key, which is not provided by Microsoft.

Does anyone know how to get this refund?

You may need to ask by emailing infoservice@magix.net (if you haven't yet) unless somebody knows better.

The main question is, why weren't you provided with a subscription key when you made the purchase? where you provided with any kind of purchasing info from them as proof of your purchase?

No personal experience with MS Store, but VEGASDerek here: "App store serial numbers only work through the Microsoft Store and in the sandboxed environment."

Don't know if this is currently valid https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/storedocs/terms-of-sale

A questão principal é, por que você não foi fornecido com uma chave de assinatura quando você fez a compra? onde você forneceu qualquer tipo de informação de compra deles como prova de sua compra?

Hi, Steve.

I don't know. I just emailed microsoft support asking for help.

Hello, I'm new to this community and I just want to bring my similar experience.

I bought Vegas 19 Edit Microsoft Store Edition and it freezes everytime i put a file (all kinds of files, even a simple jpeg) in the timeline and try to play it in preview (from explorer windows no problems). Everytime I click on the timeline I hear the windows alert sound, and the window loses the focus, but no error appears at all.

Already tried several solutions and tweaks, thank's to this community, and even format the entire pc reinstalling and updating everything but nothing worked.

I have windows 11 with regular license and microsoft sells the software for windows 10 or newer so it must work without problems. They installed it directly from the store without issues or any advise. Build 426.

Anyway I tried to contact microsoft for a refund, with no success, and I am now waiting for a refund from paypal. I will let you know If I get it.

Ps: I confirm that microsoft doesn't provide any serial key to the user but it just associates the software to the microsoft account.

Willian-Silva wrote on 1/20/2022, 6:56 AM

Hi, I contacted support on the 19th of December to try to resolve the issue, but to no avail. I have sent several emails to support and so far the issue has not been resolved. According to them, the program has not been tested much on windows 11.
When I asked for my money back, I was told to contact Microsoft.
Follow the instructions I received from support, maybe it can help you.

"12/20/2021

Thank you for your message. Please provide us with your system information to help us further research your issue. The instructions below show you how to do so.

1. On your system, press the Windows Key + R on your keyboard. This opens a Run dialog.

2. Type "msinfo32" then click OK. A System Information utility will open.

3. Go to File > Export, then name the file "SI" and save it to your Desktop. Please attach that text file to this incident.

Please attach that text file to this incident. The file must be a text file or we will be unable to open it, so ensure that step 3 was followed correctly."

and

Thank you for the system information. Let's check to see if uninstalling and reinstalling the software to the hidden admin profile helps. Windows comes with a hidden administrator account which must first be enabled. To do so:

1. Type "Command Prompt" into Windows search or Cortana

2. right-click on the Command Prompt result that appears and choose "Run as administrator"

3. After the command prompt opens, type: net user administrator /active:yes

4. Double check to make sure the command is entered correctly and hit Enter on your keyboard.

5. After running this command, the prompt will respond with: command completed successfully

6. Go back to the Windows desktop , and press Ctrl+Alt+Delete and select “Switch User” to find the Administrator account, then select it.

7. Install and activate your software applications onto this profile.

If this works for your issue, you can then copy the desktop icon for the software. Once you do that, you can then log back into your normal account and paste the desktop icon there to launch it."

and

"12/22/2021

Dear Willian,

In that case I would like you to reset your software. To reset your software, you simply need to double click the program's icon while holding down Ctrl+Shift. This will bring up a window asking if you would like to delete the cache. Check the box then click okay and your program should start."

and

"12/23/2021

Dear Willian,

In that case, as a troubleshooting step, click Options > Preferences > Video tab, then turn “GPU acceleration of video processing” to off, and set “dynamic RAM preview” to 0, click apply and OK."

and

"01/05/2022

Dear Willian,

In that case the likely issue is that you're running VEGAS Pro 18 in a Windows 11 environment since VP18 was never tested nor was ever stated to be supported on Windows 11."

"01/18/2022

Dear Willian,

Since the purchase was made through the Microsoft store you would have to contact the Microsoft store support to request a refund."

This was the last email I received. =/

Hi William, I already tried everything they've suggested but thank's for sharing :)

I didn't wrote to vegas support as I imagined they would just say they don't support windows 11 yet, as clearly stated.

An update to the Microsoft Store version of VEGAS Pro 19 is pending. It should resolve several stability issues with that version of the application. We hope to have that available in an few days.

Out of curiosity : what is the idea behind having a Microsoft Store version available , which apparently is also different from the "normal" versions ? ( run it on smartphones ? )

Reasoning? I really don't know. Magix sales would have to answer that. As far as it is being different. only a couple minor things are different. And no, it won't run on smartphones. The system requirements are identical between the standard version and the MS Store version.

Here's my guess. My cousin just had to buy a new computer. He said it was running version "11S" and he was wanting to install FireFox he had downloaded and it was asking if he wanted to turn off the "S". I had not heard of that so had to do some searching. Turns out the "S" version is "more secure" and will only let you install apps that are in the Microsoft Store (i.e. pre-approved as being "safe"). You can turn off the "S" and install anything you want but you cannot turn "S" back on if you do that. So in order to install Vegas, it would have to come from the Microsoft Store or they would have to turn off the "S" option.

@jetdv : my goodness .... more secure from microsoft or more $ for microsoft 😂 . Maybe interesting for the kids in the kindergarten for some basic apps , so they won't install crap but for programs like vegas pro ??? Well , anyway ....

I'm pretty sure Microsoft has some of the lowest App Store Revenue Share in the industry. They lowered the share they take from developers long before Google or Apple even considered the idea. At this point, the Store is there mostly as a convenience to users, and as a way to make sure they are installing safe and secure software. It's also a good way for lesser-known developers to get users to see their products...

Because, in 2022, lots of people may see VEGAS Pro in the Windows store that otherwise would never have thought about it without that impetus. VEGAS is a highly p*r*t*d product, so the chances of someone searching for it and ending up in "the wrong place" is actually quite real, as well.

I am not sure why people feed the need to perpetuate this kind of FUD.
