Render to New Track

3POINT wrote on 9/10/2013, 9:41 AM
Since I upgraded to MS12, the "render to new track" function (CRTL+ M) doesn't work properly. In older version of MS the function renders your project (or a part of it) and puts the result ON TOP of your project in a seperate new Video and Audio track. In MS12 it puts the result AT THE END, so not ON TOP, of your project, which is very anoying. Is this a bug or a new approach of rendering to a new track?.

I can't explain the change, but Vegas Pro has always placed the new, rendered track at the bottom, and this is the way I prefer it. I haven't come across a situation where I would use the new track as a compositing parent, so it would just be in the way it it was inserted at the top . . .

Yes, I'm seeing exactly the same thing with Movie Studio 12 -- though it is NOT the case in Vegas Pro, which places the newly rendered track ABOVE your movie on the timeline.

I'll have to double check and correct that, I have Vegas pro 8.

Odd. Here, MSP 12 (b895/896) still places the newly rendered track at the top on the timeline.
The same in v 10 and VPro 12 (b670) and VPro 10 as well.

On my system, it indeed places it on the top video track -- but AFTER the end of the last event on my timeline rather than above the existing project (the way Vegas Pro does).

I thought it might be an issue with Auto Ripple, but changing the settings doesn't affect this.

Steve, one of the "usability improvements for adding media to a project"
in MSP 12 was that "double-clicking media in the Explorer window now adds the media to end of your project on the selected track."
Maybe the behaviour you (and I) are seeing is related?

Yes I know it's not the case in Vpro, therefor I assume it's a bug in MS12. Where can I report such things at SCS, because I often use this functionality?

Hi everyone.
I know this is slightly off the conversation, and I apologise for that, but can somebody explain why you would want to do this? What are the advantages of rendering to a new track?
Thanks an advance
Steve.

Smoother playback and less computer power being directed to creating your preview on the fly.
