Rendering is not using my GPU but only CPU performance while NVENC on.

Tzikos-Blizoo wrote on 10/7/2020, 9:40 AM

Hello,

I'm struggling to find the reason why the render is using my CPU only. This happens only when i try to render a video that is higher than 1080p (2k, 4k render). I want to render a video with 1 Magic bullet looks effect but on 2k or 4k it uses only my CPU which makes the render slow (3 minutes for 20 seconds of video). If i render it on 1080p it uses both CPU & GPU performance. I'm thinking that the Magic bullet looks plugin is GPU accelarated but only for 1080p and lower?

CPU: Ryzen 7 2700x

GPU: GTX 1660 Ti gaming X

Format: Magix Avc/Aac MP4

You are not having the latest and best Nvidiadriver, look at my desktop from signature. Program buildnumber you find at Help/About, look

There was an update today from nvidia and this is the latest driver version. Build number: 284

j-v wrote on 10/7/2020, 11:16 AM

That is not the best for use in Vegas programs.
Therefor we can better use, following what the Vegas developpers told us, to use the Studio drivers and not the gamedrivers

Currently the Studio drivers are recommended with VEGAS (as in @j-v's signature).

I just finished a clean installation of latest studio drivers, did the settings through nvidia control panel so i was ready. And still, i have the same issue and now the render is 2 minutes longer, so i went back to Game ready drivers and im back to where i was. On my point of view this is not a graphics driver issue since the NVENC performs great at 1080p (40 sec for render to finish on a 20 sec video). I need this performance on 2k and 4k. Of course i expect a longer render due to the bigger resolution but all i see on the task manager is my CPU on full 100% load and my GPU at 0% while rendering 2k or 4k.

Edit: Also, if i render using some effects of the GPU Accelerated plugins the rendering time of 1440p is the same as the 1080p with a Magic bullet looks effect. So, is something wrong with my Magic bullet looks plugin maybe ?

I had also that problem on my laptop, but by changing some settings it now does not happen anymore.
What are your settings of VPro 17 latest build for Preferences/Video acceleration and File I/O?

When I try this template imitating yours

with these other settings than yours , a 4K GOPro HEVC file renders without a problem on my laptop

Yes, i didnt say that i got this problem in general, i'm talking about the Magic bullet looks. Only with this plugin i have this issue. On 1080p everything is ok, on higher render than 1080p i have problem. Maybe i didnt describe it well due to my poor english but thats the main problem im dealing with.

j-v wrote on 10/7/2020, 12:42 PM

I did it in my test with MBQuick Looks/Dreamlooks-sharp, no problem

It's worth a driver update to see if that helps.

Desktop

AMD Ryzen 7 1800x 8 core 16 thread at stock speed

64GB 3000mhz DDR4

Geforce RTX 3090

Windows 10

Laptop:

ASUS Zenbook Pro Duo 32GB (9980HK CPU, RTX 2060 GPU, dual 4K touch screens, main one OLED HDR)

I tried this plugin in both Vegas18 and Resolve to determine if the plugin was at fault for 4K rendering. I get a good amount of extra GPU use on both editors with 4K video when plugin is turned on. See if there is an update for the plugin @Tzikos-Blizoo
