[Resolved] Can't add mp3 to Movie Studio Platinum 13

joe-deshon wrote on 1/27/2017, 8:43 PM

I just upgraded from Vegas Video Pro 11 to Movie Studio Platinum 13.0.

Now, mp3 files don't work with the video editor.

When I try to add audio, mp3 files don't show up on the list.

When I manually drag an mp3 file to an audio track, it appears to accept it. but when it plays back, it sounds like garbage.  A high-pitched screeching sound.

All the old project files that have mp3 files are doing the same thing when I try to open them in v13.

Rendering in mp3 is no longer an option.

Wave files appear to work fine.  But I don't want to have to convert every mp3 file to wave.

I've already deleted v11 from my computer.  I need to be work with mp3 files in v13.

Any help?

I've no problem with mp3 in Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 13. Can you post a problem file somewhere so we can try it.

The old Sony Creative Software CS Team wrote here: "The symptoms in your video indicate your file has one or more of three problems: The file is not a standard MP3 or The file has embedded copy protection or The file is corrupt or damaged in some way." They also requested the same as EricLNZ does in his comment.

Here is a link to a Google drive that contains all the files.

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0ByZWfw-hc0XMSnlkM1pPYTRlb2M?usp=sharing

There is nothing wrong with the mp3 file.  It plays perfectly in other software like Windows Media player and GoldWave.  And it was obtained from a reliable source with no copy protection.

Notice the two png files of screen shots that illustrate that when adding media or when rendering that mp3 is not an option.

mp3 files worked perfectly with v11.  But v13 doesn't treat mp3 files correctly -- not in new projects or in old projects that were created in v11.

When I try to add audio, mp3 files don't show up on the list.

Did you try the pulldown menu to find "MP3 Audio [*.mp3)"?

Choose a preset template from the right to see mp3.

joe-deshon wrote on 1/28/2017, 11:47 AM

When I try to add media, mp3 does not show up as displayed, and does not appear in the drop down.

When I try to render, mp3 is not listed as one of the options:

Which build of Movie Studio Platinum 13 are you on? Is it one of the rebranded Magix builds? My screenshots are from Sony MSP 13 build 955.

(I don't know if what is said here has anything to do with this.)

My b 955 dll list looks similar. This page talks about "additional activation of components such as codecs, for instance, to be able to use specific formats". Read the page. Also log in to your account here and see what is there. Maybe someone knows more about this. If not, Magix tech support needs to be able to help. I do not currently have any Magix-branded Vegas products yet.

EDIT: read the whole of this thread.

I downloaded Hyperfun.mp3 and it imports and plays perfectly in my Vegas MS Platinum 13 Build 987 64 bit.

Good to know, Eric. The OP might try uninstalling and reinstalling (file verification problem was assumed in an old post about a similar issue somewhere).

EricLNZ wrote on 1/28/2017, 2:55 PM

Looking at my Render Options I have several audio options he doesn't have - FLAC, LPEC, MP3... Something on his system might be interfering?

Joe - you haven't by chance installed any TP Codec packs?

joe-deshon wrote on 1/28/2017, 3:38 PM

Solved the problem!

I hadn't installed everything.

Here's my story...  I had purchased the product through an offer from a link from v11.  I received an email that let me download the installation program.

But I was only interested in the video editor.  I didn't need or want a DVD editor or audio editor or anything else.

I never scrolled down in the email, and I never even realized that there were about eight more programs that I needed to download.  Sunnuvugun.

Once I downloaded everything, now the video editor works.  So there must have been a code or something in one of thse other programs that was necessary.

Whatever.  It looks like I bought a lot more than I really needed.  But I guess I needed it anyway.

And... in a note to Magix about customer interfaces:  It's really, really confusing to the customer when you make him download eight programs to make one work without giving any indication that all (or most) of them are required.  If it's a pack, let it be downloaded as a package.

Sheesh...  Oh, well.

Thanks bunches to everybody that responded so fast.  You pointed me in the right direction.

That's weird. I downloaded Vegas MS13 late December and didn't get eight programmes for the editor. I got:

MS13 Suite programme
Manual pdf

DVDAS5 programme
Manual pdf

iZotope plugins (2)

ACID Music Studio programme
Manual pdf
ACID Loop Content

Sound Forge programme
Manual pdf

Then later I got the download links for NewBlue and Boris plugins.

The various items is how my original Sony MS12 was delivered. Perhaps the audio codecs are in Sound Forge? I'm still using my MS12 Sound Forge and MS12 DVDAS. Both are working okay so I haven't bothered replacing them by the Vegas 13 versions which I gather are no different other than rebranding.

Anyway Joe you are up and going now.

Sorry for digging up this old thread, but after having reinstalled Vegas after my computer malfunctioned a while back, I've just run into the exact same issue with MP3 files as this thread with Vegas 14 Platinum, with NewBlue, DVD Architect and Music Maker. I've tried running the reinstaller again and it didn't make a difference. Is there something I'm missing here?

EricLNZ wrote on 8/20/2017, 7:36 PM

My MS14 Build 122 uses the following to handle mp3 files. I don't know which part of the Magix package installs it.

Plug-In
  Name: mp3plug2.dll
  Folder: C:\Program Files\VEGAS\Movie Studio Platinum 14.0\FileIO Plug-Ins\mp3plug2

EricLNZ wrote on 8/20/2017, 7:54 PM

Digging further I find my mp3plugin was installed when I updated to Build 122 of MS14. So it comes with MS Platinum. So you should have it?

Sorry for the late post, life hasn't been treating me any better over the past few days. I checked the folder, and I do have the mp3plug2 folder, with a .dll and help file in it, so I do seem to have it. So it's rather disturbing that it doesn't seem to be working.

EricLNZ wrote on 8/28/2017, 5:54 AM

Cobaltmotari - best clarify your problem so we know exactly your issue. Is it that when you drag mp3 files into MS14 it doesn't recognise them? If so could you attach a problem mp3 file so we can check.

Cobaltmotari wrote on 8/28/2017, 6:01 AM

It's basically the same as the OP of this thread - mp3 files don't show up in Vegas' own file explorer, and dragging an mp3 into Vegas via the Windows file explorer causes the file to come out as a single long block of incoherent screeching.

EricLNZ wrote on 8/28/2017, 6:04 AM

Please attach one of your short problem files so we can check.

Also which MS version are you using and the Build number.

Cobaltmotari wrote on 8/28/2017, 6:11 AM

The build of Windows I use is 14393.1593, and the build of vegas is 122.

I'm not sure what you mean by "one of your short problem files", but I could try rendering a short clip of any mp3 I have and attaching what I "hope" will be the resulting noise. Would that be fine?

EricLNZ wrote on 8/28/2017, 6:21 AM

Firstly upgrade your MS14 to the latest build 148. If that doesn't fix the problem just upload one of the mp3 files that give you problems somewhere so we can download and try.

Cobaltmotari wrote on 8/28/2017, 6:43 AM

It might take a while, since I've been having trouble with Windows update, but I'll let you know.

Cobaltmotari wrote on 8/28/2017, 11:10 AM

Update, I might've misunderstood, since my first instinct was to sort out the problems I was having with windows update (which to be fair, I probably should've done anyway, given that there was a security update), but then I updated MS14 to the latest build and tried out an mp3, and it works properly now! Words alone cannot express how thankful I am for your solution, you've just cleared my mind of over a week's worth of stress!
