It depends on how you have your interface set up and on what version of Movie Studio you are using.

So, the first question is, what version are you using? And, if you are using MS13, are you in easy or advanced mode?

Hi Roberto,

You are probably not going to like this.....

In version 12 and earlier, there is an icon at the top to indicate if Auto Ripple is on or not, which also allows you to select of or off, as well as a drop down to the right of this icon to select from the three available modes.

If you are using version 13 Platinum (advanced mode), it appears they took it away. The closest, is to use the Config button at the bottom. There you can see if Auto Ripple is on or off, and select On or Off. But this will not show you which of the three option modes has been selected. For that you need to select Ripple from the Options menu. If you don't have Auto Ripple turned on and want it turned on, select it. The menu clears. If you want to change the mode, then go Options, Ripple, and select the mode desired!

If you are using version 13 Platinum (simple mode), the Config button at the bottom is replaced with an Auto Ripple Icon/button, but niether there or the Auto Ripple setteing in Options, will allow changing the mode.

Ctrl+L is the keyboard short cut to toggle Auto Ripple on/off.

Best Regards......George

The OP seems to have Movie Studio Platinum 13.
It was one of the more unfortunate changes in MSP 13 that they decided to hide the Auto Ripple button in the Config menu. You'll find ripple types now in Options > Ripple menu. These apply to the Advanced Mode.
The Simple Mode shows the Auto Ripple button (no Config menu), but it has no ripple types.

Hi,

thanks for the answer and sorry for being late with my feedback.
First of all, yes, I have VMS 13 Platinum and I use the advanced mode I/F: who, on this earth, will use the simple mode when they can probably get the same basic functionalities with some free movie editors????? ;-))
Your answer is what I was afraid of: so, there is basically no indication about what ripple mode is active.
I wonder what kind of insane idea was at the time Sony re-designed the GUI... seems they do not even try to use their SW in order to see if anything is missing :-(
Anyway, I can't do anything... so, thanks again for the answer.

Cheers

Roberto

To be precise, in previous versions you cannot see which ripple type is on at one glance either, only if Auto Ripple is on or off. It takes that one click to open the pull-down menu.
In MSP 13 it takes two clicks (Options > Ripple).
Anyway, I did not like this change either.
The "insane idea" was most likely the "touch-friendly" approach.

Agree.
Absolutely useless.
