Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra 5G videos not running well on Vegas Pro 19

I Have the New Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra 5G. I'm running the latest Vegas Pro 19 (Build 643)

Im trying to edit a vacation video and it recorded in various ways, frames, and quality...

Loading the videos and pics didn't receive well as it felt like it was going to freeze just selecting the files...and when it tried to load on the tracks it went white, and froze, then closed as it asked what I wanted to do.

I tried loading one video and playback was jittery, laggy, then froze and closed on its own without any type of action to answer to. Handles DSLR Videos just fine (Canon 80D)

You didn't actually give any information about any of the media.

Are the images DMG or jpg or something else.

What is the resolution and frame rate of the video, it's it AVC, HEVC, or HEVC 10bit(HDR)

You can use mediainfo to find out https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo

Also upload to a file sharing site an example video that crashes vegas so others can confirm your problem

@Boannski Hi, i have a not too dissimilar PC to yours & use a Samsung S21 Ultra, In the phone settings there's HDR10, It produces a HEVC file & this doesn't work too well on some machines, In Vegas Preferences - File I/O there's Legacy HEVC but on my machine these files are jerky, it takes a few loop plays to get them playing at full fps, turn it off if it's on then your phone will create AVC files instead that play well,

There's a tool called MediaInfo, download it, it's free https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo
After downloading, right click on the media in your Windows folder, open MediaInfo, choose Text from the View option, select all, copy & paste in a comment here,

Also check your GPU driver is up to date, you want the Studio driver, if you haven't already got it Nvidia Geforce Experience can help with that https://www.nvidia.com/en-gb/geforce/geforce-experience/

& Vegas website recommends 32GB of RAM for 4K video, whether that is correct or not i don't know,

PS set your preview window to no more than Good or Preview (Half)

@Former user That is interesting, I was wondering how well HEVC legacy works on a 32core CPU, does Vegas use all your cores but result is still not great? At 4K on my 12core CPU hevc media is mostly unplayable on legacy, although it does use up all my CPU, which is a good thing, so I had thought I just need more cores

I apologize since it's the first time I've done this...will try to gather the info.

@Former user I just have the HDR option on the phone turned off so don't have a lot of experience using HEVC but i know it doesn't do as well as AVC, & in Vegas i have Legacy HEVC off/unticked too but i've cleared out the Vegas AppData folder a few times recently & Legacy HEVC gets turned on by default,

before posting the comment above i turned on HDR10 & created a short HEVC clip with the phone, then tried it in Vegas, Legacy HEVC on, that's the one that took 3-5 loops to reach full fps, which just reassured my thoughts reg HEVC from my phone.

I'll try it again with Legacy HEVC off as i usually have it....

OK with Legacy HEVC turned off it seems to play better, but that's today, Vegas isn't that consistent sometimes & the PC has been turned off over night, it's only been on an hr with nothing else but Google on the taskbar, adding the file again & crossfading the 2 took a few loop plays to play at full fps but that's fairly normal for Vegas 🤷‍♂️😂 Vegas may have improved HEVC support, they have to it's going to be more widely used as time goes on but for now i have just been simply avoiding it,

Ok, so some of the footage is UHD 60fps

One is 8k at 24fps

And the least are 1080 at 60fps

I don't have HVEC on...

Nor do I have HDR10 on

All images are jpeg....hope that helps.

@Boannski Ok. filming in 8k automatically changes the phone settings to HEVC for file space savings, Google AVC vs HEVC 👍, so you have a mix of AVC & HEVC on the timeline & Vegas specs recommend 32GB for 4k never mind 8K, also different frame rates.

this is a short clip i just did with 8K (HDR10 turned Off on the phone) but it still creates HEVC

I would consider editing these different clips separately or in groups that only consist of the same res n format,

This is 8k 24fps on my pc, the second clip is 4k 30fps , it played ok after a loop play or 2 & i'm already at 15GB+ RAM usage but i have plenty to play with, yours prob won't exceed a certain limit because poss the system will be holding some back, ,

Definitely got the driver updated a week ago, I will be getting the free mediaarea software thanks for that! And I'll definitely try to max out my ram...I think I can go as high as 64g

Truly helpful, I'll get back to you on that thanks a million! Luckily I just used the 8k once (I honestly don't think it's that good as they say it is tbh) just to see how it would come out after grading...

@Boannski 👍 I'm sure it will help but Vegas can be funny about mixed formats (funny in general 😒😂) , Yep download the MediaInfo, it's a fast download n there's adverts n crap on it, after using it a while it'll help understand the different files & their inner parts,

This is a short clip, in my pics above i just screen captured the app but in the vid i copied n pasted, either is fine 👍

Former user wrote on 7/6/2022, 8:01 AM

Yeah I don't like 8k, no on screen zoom & i don't think the phone handles it well, it seems jerky, btw if you put an @ symbol you'll get the option to tag people & they'll get notified @Boannski

& can you go to your icon at the top, click it - My Profile, & fill in your Signature with your Vegas version, Windows version & system specs, full name of CPU, GPU, & amount of RAM etc. this will then show at the bottom of the comments & will help people help you 👍 thanks.

@Former user I see!!! I'm doing this all on the phone so it may take very little time to get use to, I'll also add you on YouTube...I see your signature tab, I'll have to add all of that manually no? So it may take a small amount of time to do that as well. Thanks a milli nonetheless.

I just wanted to be honest...those days are over. And I feel better about myself knowing I've invested when I didn't have much. You really think I'll get in trouble?

Former user wrote on 7/6/2022, 8:15 AM

@Boannski yeah prob better adding that info on a pc than your phone, 🤷‍♂️👍 I'm off out but my YT vids now are 4k, i stick to UHD 30 on the phone, it makes life simple, if you think my pc monitor is 32" that's 4K, not many people will be watching on screens bigger than that, & the subs have even said FHD (1920x1080) was fine that i used to film my vids in,

Former user wrote on 7/6/2022, 8:16 AM

@Boannski No you won't get in trouble but it's something in your past that sometimes is best left in the past 😉👍

Not only them but also the admin (VEGAS team member), please see here (and the pinned post here). The VEGAS Team does not think it's funny.

As I don't think it was either now, the past is indeed the past...I thought I could have a chuckle about it now that I've made myself and honest person...I apologize nonetheless.

@Boannski thanks for joining as a legitimate user. (The Vegas employees need to be paid) Btw, I wondered about funny emojis in the comment that I quoted from.

@vkmast My 😂's were more about the irony of having now having the latest version, that he was having more trouble than with the old version,

just out of interest can i ask your nationality @vkmast & @Boannski?

That was the beginning of it all, I was talking about my broke younger years and what I was doing to get by, and now that Im in a better (since 2010) it felt good that day I decided to do what is right.
