Screen Layouts

Robert-Costo wrote on 5/19/2022, 11:51 AM

I have Movie Studio Platinum 15.0 and I need some help Understanding how the Screen Layouts work?

I have Bad Eyes so please do not show Me any Photos just Tell Me if You can.

I Know I can just Make My Screen Layout the way I want it to Look.

Then I go to View then Windows Layouts then Save Layout As.

So the next Time I Open Movie Studio Platinum 15.0 I just go to View then Windows Layouts and in the List I Select the Layout I Made.

If I Look inside the Organize Layouts Menu I See a Left Side and a Right Side.

The Left Side Says Available Layouts In Folder and the Right Side Says Current Layouts in Folder.

I Know all the Layouts I Made are on the Left Side.

What is does the Right Side represent?

I Know if You Select a Layout You Made on the Left You Assign it to an Empty Slot on the Right.

What is the Right Slots for and what do they do?

Whatever is on the Left Side is what Shows Up on the View Windows Layouts Right?

Or do I have this Whole thing Wrong?

Thanks for all the Time.

@Robert-Costo The ones on the right side are the ones that have been assigned shortcuts. Assigning a layout to a shortcut key means that simply pressing the Alt key and D down and releasing, then pressing the assigned key will switch to that layout. For instance, assigning a particular layout to number 1 and pressing Alt+D then 1, will switch to that layout.

@Jack S I think the OP means the "right side" here:

Yes the Right and Left Side on the Organize Layouts Screen like in the Photo Above.

Say I Make 3. Screen Layouts I Know they will be all on the Left Hand Side.

But what is the Right Hand Side for?

EricLNZ wrote on 5/19/2022, 8:52 PM

@Robert-Costo As Jack S said the right side shows layouts that have been assigned to a shortcut key. My left side has lots of layouts created by VMS which don't appear on the right as I haven't consigned them to a key.

Normally I don't go into Organise Layouts as I save a layout using View\Window Layouts\Save Layout As. There I give it a name and assign it to a shortcut key.

Thanks to everybody for the help.

One more thing about Screen Layouts I need help with?

I have everything on Screen the way I like it to Look.

I Removed Extra Picture In Picture Track.

I Removed the Extra Music Track and all My Settings are the way I like.

I go to View then the Windows Layouts and give it a name and Save it.

I Close the Program and go away from it.

If I come back and Start the Program again the Picture In Picture Track is back and the Music Track is back.

Is this because I have to go to View Windows Layouts and Select My Layout?

I Thought it would stay as is all the Time?

@Robert-Costo

Is this because I have to go to View Windows Layouts and Select My Layout?

Yes for a new project, but if you have saved a project and open VMS by double clicking on the ".vf" file for that project it will open with the layout you were using when you closed it.

Note - not all settings are saved in a layout. What some of us do is create a blank project with everything as we want it and save it as "Blank.vf". For a new project I open this then immediately save the project under a new permanent name. "Blank.vf" is then untouched and available, in effect a template, for my next project.

Also refer your previous post on layouts https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/layout-template--133659/

@EricLNZ Thanks for reinforcing my comment. I purposely didn't post an image because the OP asked specifically that we not do so.

I have Bad Eyes so please do not show Me any Photos just Tell Me if You can.

Also if you select a project from the drop down list of recent projects in the Project Menu list it will also open with the Windows Layout it was closed with.

From the OP:

"If I Look inside the Organize Layouts Menu I See a Left Side and a Right Side.

The Left Side Says Available Layouts In Folder and the Right Side Says Current Layouts in Folder.

I Know all the Layouts I Made are on the Left Side.

What is does the Right Side represent?"

And as we know, a screengrab can be made often larger/legible here by clicking.

The Left Side Says Available Layouts In Folder and the Right Side Says Current Layouts in Folder

My VMS17 says as per @vkmast's image where the right side says Current layouts in menu, which is something different to Current Layouts In Folder.

Maybe it changed between VMS15 and 17?

MSP 15 MSP 17

"menu" is correct as in the screenshots. Probably just a lapse of concentration.

Btw, Robert had (as *****900, I believe) several hundred posts/comments already on the old SCS forum.

Robert-Costo wrote on 5/20/2022, 11:41 AM

Thanks I never Thought of that.

I will just Make a Screen Layout the way I like it and Save it.

And just Open it every Time for a New Project.
