Serial number of (Sony) Vegas Pro 13 not being accepted for upgrade

alan2782 wrote on 2/2/2020, 10:32 AM

I'm trying to buy the upgrade to v17 for vegas pro. My serial number is not being accepted. What do I need to do? The mxinstallhelper app that searches on your website directed me to for this issue did not work. Also I could not figure out how to post this question to the customer service queue so i'm sorry if this is in the wrong place.

There's a one upgrade per serial number policy which means that "only one user can make an upgrade from a previous version". Is it possible that your serial number has been previously used for upgrading?

You could try asking infoservice@magix.net or using https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/support/interview/

thanks. it's possible but not on my authority - i did not give my product or serial number to anyone.

i'll try reaching out to them at that email or link

thanks

@alan2782 did you purchase it as new or from a previous owner?

alan2782 wrote on 2/2/2020, 11:58 AM

New, from b&h photo a few years ago.

@alan2782 Does it show on your MAGIX Account > My products? If not, see the bottom of that page if you can register the product. (See also this FAQ section 3.)

alan2782 wrote on 2/2/2020, 2:13 PM

It does not show on my registered products page. Only the trial versions of 17, which i just checked out, show there. I registered it with Sony when i bought it - maybe i assumed the registration carried over - I don't ermember if I ever registered it with Magix (may have even used a different email address).

Anyway, tried to register it now and I get the message Wrong product registration number.

Again, unless somebody stole it from me, this is my product, i am the valid owner of it, I purchased it from a trusted retailer (b&h photo). I did not sell it or give it away or anything like that.

So i don't know what's up.

Any other ideas appreciated, but I did email and post a query to Magix, so hopefully they help my out in the next day or 2.

frankly, i only need it because i'm working with a quicktime ProRes file... i've had QT issues before but years ago after installing QT, other files of that time have worked. But I have one now that Vegas 13 & DVDA (both 6 & 7) can't read (they get audio only). Trial version of Vegas 17 does read it (audio & video). Rather than use a 3rd party converter I decided to splurge and spend the upgrade bucks. I'll go back to conversion if I can't work this out.

By the way, thank you for all your help...

Please create a support ticket and provide us your serial number which is not working for upgrade purposes so we can look into that for you. https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/support/form/?title=support%20ticket

Via emails with Vegas staff they determined I misread S as 5 . I haven't tried with what should be the correct number yet. But I'm ok for now thanks. (I guess I figured it out when I first installed the software several years ago... I'm a little embarrassed by this!)

The basic recommendation is that to avoid typos and misreads we should copy and paste the serial number if possible. Glad if you're getting this out of the way now.

Btw, thanks to @VEGAS_EricD for providing the current new support ticket link for this kind of issues.

Indeed yes, but the serial number was printed on an insert in the box, not copy and paste-able. But maybe I'll put it in some text file and save it if I ever need it again.... (my password manager is probably the best place for it)

It's not your fault, it's the people who make the serial numbers and  CAPTCHA's  fault . these are other combinations, but 6 & G and 0 & O always get me

g & q
l & 1
I & l
G & 6
0 & O
