Yes, it's only one of the many Platinum version features missing from the basic VMS version(s).

If you're considering to upgrade, please note that the current Movie Studio versions (from MAGIX) are based on a totally different software.

@Rob_Katt

But why does it say that i need to set it in my preference when i right click and select "open copy in audio editor"? that kinda emplies that you can actually set it without having to upgrade

@Rob_Katt What is your MS16 build number?

Rob_Katt wrote on 2/9/2024, 6:42 PM

158

EricLNZ wrote on 2/10/2024, 3:34 AM

@Rob_Katt Build 158 confirms you have the basic version as vkmast posted.

As for what the Help files say, sadly they had errors and you've found one!

From my VMS 16 (basic) build 158 Help files:

MY VMSP 16 b 175 Help file add this:

As EricLNZ says, in-app Help files may have errors though. And some tutorials may apply to a specific version only.

And from VMS Platinum 16 b 175:

The Metronome (chapter) is also missing (from basic Help file).

@Rob_Katt and if you want to upgrade, check if this offer is still available.

Thanks @vkmast So there's nothing incorrect in VMS16 Build 158 Help file.

@Rob_Katt You said

Where are you seeing that?

@EricLNZ
When i select open copy in audio editor?

vkmast wrote on 2/10/2024, 7:00 AM

@EricLNZ this 2023 comment from you might help the OP.

Add an audio file to the timeline. Right-click the file there and see if there is an option in the opening menu to "Open Copy".

But as suggested there and earlier, upgrades should be considered.

Rob_Katt wrote on 2/10/2024, 7:13 AM

that option is infact there and no i dont want to upgrade i already paid 60 bucks for this license

Sorry about that and the price you had to pay.

@Rob_Katt

I suspect your VMS16 is looking for Soundforge? Do you have it installed and if so does it work outside of VMS?

Also are you Windows 10 or 11?
