simple slideshow projects crash nearly every time

I have 5 projects that I'm working. They are simple slideshows with anywhere from 25-60 pictures that fade and pan/crop with a music track. That's it.

When I render it:
Audio: 224 Kbps, 48,000 Hz, Layer 2
Video: 29.97 fps, 720x480
Use this setting to create an MPEG-2 file with an NTSC DVD-compliant video stream, and an MPEG layer 2 audio stream.

It will crash every time - on all 5 projects - usually near the end of the render. There's an error that pops up. "An error occurred during the operation" and then it crashes.

Using Movie Studio Platinum v.8.
The PC is plenty powerful:
3.8GHz, 16GB RAM, lots of hard drive space - even on the SSD C: drive.
windows 7 64-bit.
Intel HD4000 on-board Graphics.

I've also tried .avi - and get the same results - crashing before the render is complete:
Audio: 48,000 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo, PCM Uncompressed.
Video: 29.97 fps, 720x480, Lower field first.
Pixel Aspect Ratio: 0.909. OpenDML compatible.
NTSC DV video files compatible with Sony Video Capture.

I've shut down my Antivirus (comodo) and bit defender software, as well as many more shut down from the system tray.

Any idea why these keep crashing during render?

Once in a while, it has crashed even just playing the project - but it usually doesn't do that.

High resolution photos are known to cause problems in Movie Studio with versions prior to v10.

Resize your photos prior to adding them to the timeline. Use Search, there are many threads on this subject.

MSmart is likely spot on.

Another (less likely) option is heat...Do you have coretemp, speedfan or another temperature monitoring to know that your cpu isn't overheating?

Also, keep in mind re: compatibility with Win7-64 bit and older version of the VMS. You may want to download a trial of a newer version and see if it renders.

Render separate DVD Architect video and AC3 audio streams. It's the current method.
Not layer 2 audio.

That was it. Thanks.
I did not know what to search on. I did not expect that a simple photo would be the cause of this problem. The other issues I remember with Vegas were all related to AVCHD or video, not stills.

Errm, what was it?

mv,
the threaded view (which I never use) and "what to search on" would imply that the OP is replying to MSmart.
Hopefully he clears this up.

mv and vi, it wasn't clear to me at first either but I took the OP's "a simple photo would be the cause of this problem" to be the issue and resizing it fixed the issue. At least that's my take.
