So Long for now.....

I love VMS but I've found the cause of my problems. My current machine does not have enough cooling to run at 100% for greater than about 8 to 10 minutes or it shuts down due to heat. I have a CPU cooler, fan on my video card and three other fans on the case, but no dice.

I plan on upgrading my mother board and suff here in the next couple of months but until then I have to run another NLE which only uses each of the cores at about 75% and does not over heat. Once I get a new system I'll be back because I really like VMS.

Also the folks here are so helpful that I want to come back just to participate. So thanks for help and "I'll be back" with a better system.

CPU coolers are not created equal. Stock coolers (the one that came with your chip) rarely are adequate for nonlinear editing. Changing your rendering application is not likely to correct this. See tomshardware.com for some good replacements for your chipset.

did you build your computer system?

Before you give up, first make sure your computer is clean inside. Dust buildup on fans and the CPU heatsink can cause overheating.

Second, make sure the fans in your case are figihting each other. If all 3 fans aren't moving air in the right direction, heat is not being removed. Many sites online will show good airflow for best cooling.

And last, make sure that your BIOS CPU max temp is not set too low. Check for the temps of your CPU online and see what temps your CPU is actually running.

Yep, I clean my machine. Even though I bought a good a after market cooler the Phenom II 945 always ran hot under load. I have an AM2+, AM3 compatible MB that use DDR2. So I found a phenom II 6 core that reportable runs very cool even under load for a very inexpensive price. If I can get another 2 years out of my system my $150 investment will be worth while.

Thanks for all the good suggestions. Amazon prime will have my 1055T on wednesday, I've already done the BIOs upgrade so all should be well.
