SOLUTION for not all .MOV files importing into Vegas Pro 18

Debbie-Whitmer wrote on 8/19/2020, 10:16 AM

I opened up a Vegas Pro 17 project into Vegas Pro 18 and it was telling me that it couldn't find a certain .MOV file. So, I found it on my hard drive and when I attempted to choose the file and open it up, Vegas Pro 18 said that the file was unsupported. So, I went to my file library where I keep all my .MP4's and .MOV's and tried to drag over that .MOV file into the video track and it would not work and gave the same error message. However, SOME of the .MOV's WOULD WORK but not all of them!

Here is the SOLUTION I found that fixed it. Go to OPTIONS>PREFERENCES>DEPRECATED FEATURES> and then click "ENABLE THE QUICKTIME PLUGIN" to turn it on as it is disabled by default. Now, all .MOV's import properly!

Victory!

A question about Deprecated Features.

Is there a specific reason why they are off by default?

Quicktime is no longer supported by Apple, therefore no longer updated, therefore it's actually a security threat to have it installed. They wrote a new decoder (so4) that can decode most .mov formats, though some still can't be, so they left compatibility in deprecated features.

Also this from the VEGAS Pro 17 online Help: "Deprecated Features tab: Various older program functions and components, which have meanwhile been replaced by more powerful ones, are hidden as standard in VEGAS. On this tab you can restore these functions. The features are still present in the program when loading older project that use it but are hidden to prevent you from using it for new projects."
