SOLVED - Movie Studio 12 - NBFX Titler Pro 2 crash

joeduf wrote on 8/13/2013, 9:41 AM
Just purchased Movie Studio 12 Platinum and New Blue Titler Pro 2.0.

After initial installation of both I created two test projects trying out the titler plugin.

All software was registered and activated successfully.

Movie Studio 12 now instantly crashes when trying to load a .vf project saved which uses Titler Pro 2.0.

Additionally if I try to create a brand new project and use the Titler Pro 2.0 plugin Movie Studio also instantly crashes.

NOTE: The New Blue Titler Pro 2.0 plug-in works perfectly in the "sample plug-in host" that NewBlue provides. In other words the problem appears to be with Movie Studio 12 and how it uses the plugin.

Very disappointed that I cannot use brand new software.

Running Movie Studio 12 build 896 (64-bit) on WIndows 7 and
NewBlue Titler Pro 2.0 build 130507 (latest)

HELP!

Which graphics card to you have? Have you gone to the ATI or nVidia site to ensure you have the very latest driver for it? (Don't trust Windows to do it.)

Have you got 6 or more gigabytes of RAM?

I have 8 GB of RAM

I have an nVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 with the latest nVIDIA drivers according to both the nVIDIA website and the GeForce experience update utility.

I have a .ZIP file generated which contains the crash dump of Movie Studio 12, dumps of some other binaries, plus the test project I was playing with but have no idea how to upload it to Sony for their analysis.

Does the OP have NBTitlerEx installed?
The following applied to NBTPro 1, maybe it's the same with NBTPro 2?
>>>If NewBlue Titler Pro and NewBlue TitlerEX are both installed on the machine, please remove one of the installations via the Control Panel to resolve this crash.<<<

I have not installed NBTitlerEx unless this comes with some other package that I'm not aware of.

NBTitlerEx is not visible via Control Panel - Programs and Features

Titler Pro 2.0 is visible in Control Panel.

Re-installation of both Sony Movie Studio 12 and the New Blue plug-in have not helped at all. I have not yet heard from Sony nor New Blue regarding this problem.

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post third party URLs here so I will only say that NewBlueFX was VERY helpful in resolving the problem.

There is a new non-public build 130730 of Titler 2.0 Pro.

Since I'm running Win 7-64 and build 896 of Movie Studio 12 (64-bit) Pat from New Blue told me to uninstall the plugin, reinstall the new build and select only the Sony Vegas Pro OpenFX 64-bit. NOTE: There are other options at the bottom of the list checked by default. I unchecked those following Pat's recommendation and completed the plugin installation.

Prior to launching Movie Studio 12 I deleted the entire C:\Users\[me]\AppData\Local\Sony\Movie Studio Platinum so that the next launch of the app would rebuild all of the plugin caches etc from scratch. Did this on my own / perhaps it is not necessary.

Launched Movie Studio 12. Bingo! Back in business. Running well now. Can open the original test projects as well as create new ones. Thanks to Pat at NewBlueFX customer support for the excellent response.

That is the experience many of us here have.

Good of you to post the solution. The new build of NBTPro 2 was in fact mentioned in a couple of recent discussions in the Pro forum.

+2 for NB Customer service.

FYI, I have a 650Ti, Movie Studio 12 Plat. 64 bit Win 8. Titler 2.0 installed and works amazingly well. In fact, I even have Titler EX installed (it installs automatically with the MSPP NewBlue FX that come with the purchase (may have a spelling issue - I'm not sure if I have enough Ps or Ss). I used to have the issue EX and Titler v1.0. It appears they solved the issue with v2.0 (latest public build). Try updating the Titler, but clicking 'about' in the plugin.

Markk,
thanks for the info re your experiences in MSPS 12 with the NBTEx and NBTPro 2 compatibility.
Since I got VPro as well, I'll probably wait if jetdv has anything to say about the NBTEx and NBTPro 1 (latest build) compatibility.

Makes sense. In one of the Titler 2.0 upgrade messages, I did see a note that says that NB resolved incompatibility between 1.0 and 2.0 co-existing on the same system. Didn't say anything about EX....

If you're having an issue with TitlerEx on Movie Studio 12, I have a newer build you can test:

jetdv,
the issue is the well-known incompatibility of NBTitler Ex and NBTPro 1 on the same machine. Does this build solve it?

edit:
Installed the 130812 build of NBTitler Ex anyway to test. The TitlerPro 1.0 build in my VPro 12 is the 130729. After initial crashes in MSPS 12 (b896) and VPro 12 (b670) it looks like this build of NBTEx works in MSP 12, as does the latest build of NBTPro 1 in VPro 12.
