SONY?? ARE YOU READING?? Build 293 issue

MikeLV wrote on 2/7/2012, 5:27 PM
I updated my software to the newest build today. Now I'm unable to open some project files. However, others open with no trouble. The only thing different about the ones that do not open is that they are shorter (timewise) than the ones that do open. When I try to open, this is what comes up in the Problem Report:

Problem Description
Application Name: Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum
Application Version: Version 11.0 (Build 293)
Problem: Unmanaged Exception (0xc0000005)
Fault Module: C:\Program Files (x86)\Sony\Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11.0\CoreGraphics.Native.dll
Fault Address: 0x19714094
Fault Offset: 0x00004094

Fault Process Details
Process Path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Sony\Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11.0\VegasMovieStudioPE110.exe
Process Version: Version 11.0 (Build 293)
Process Description: Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum
Process Image Date: 2012-02-02 (Thu Feb 02) 21:07:44

I tried to call Sony, but was unable to get anyone on the phone to assist me.

There is a problem with 283 (previous build) crashing when trying to open projects with shadow effect in it.

Maybe it is the same unfixed problem? Can someone confirm?
I am still on build 256 and I don't want to upgrade if the problem has not been fixed.

This is excatly the same dll which causes the new titler to crash when applying the shadow effect. build 293 doesn't fix it!!

I tried the fix outlined at the link. It did fix the shadow crashing issue. However it also screwed up all the titles of my project. I removed the .old extension and everything went back to normal along with the crash.

Hi guys, just to let you know, I am the poster in the videohelp forum. I received another reply from support, here's what she said:

To be honest, I'm not exactly sure what it (the DLL) does, especially if everything is seeming to load fine without it. My best recommendation would still be to do a reinstall, as the file has seemingly been corrupted. Hopefully a clean install directly to the latest update should get everything running smoothly again. Let me know, of course, if it doesn't!

Will try that today and see how it goes. She also gave me a link to download the previous build just in case reinstalling doesn't work.

Nothing is working to fix this problem. Now the crazy thing is that build 283 is doing the same crash, when it never crashed before I upgraded to 293. I even went through the uninstallation process, and deleted the registry keys. This really has me in a bind because it's now holding up production of a DVD. When you rename the CoreGraphics.Native.dll and open the project, there are no media generator text displaying. I thought perhaps it would still render them, but no such luck. Has anyone else run into this crash with 293? There has to be a fix, or at least a temporary fix, somehow.........

Mike,

Try going to b256. Shadows work in that build, at least for some preliminary trials. I tried updating to 2 of the newer buidls, but it caused problems (incl. shadow issue). I promptly uninstalled them and reinstalled b256.

Hi Mark, do you have the install file for that build? I don't have it, or don't know where to get it..

Mike,

Got the message, you should be able to download it direct from Sony. They are pretty big files. Let us know how it works for you...

I think I'm in the clear!!! My project didn't crash on load, and it's showing the text media generator; you saved the day, thanks!!!!!!! I am going to call Sony and update them on this. They should be able to tell what the heck happened between this build and 283 and 293. Thanks again!

I just open several projects and they all function properly. I just did a test project with Shadow, it works fine. When you delete everything did you not only delete the files in programs but also in your user folder?

I don't have any thing older than VSM11 to check with, but I'd try one more clean install and after a clean boot, I'd still search for any VMS files and review your user folders in local data.

Mike,

Glad to know the tip was helpful!

When I uninstalled VMS, I deleted all folders and files associated with it, including as many windows registry entries as I could find. So I don't know if it's build 256 that fixed the problem, or getting rid of much of the program as I could before installing it again...
