SoundForge?

Finally got the Vegas update & that got me wondering: what's up with SoundForge?  (I got it with Vegas 13.)  Did Magix buy it too?  Is there an update coming?

I don't see it included any more in the Vegas Pro 14 deals. MAGIX did buy it as well.

It's not included anymore in the "suit" or anything, instead of that NewBlue Titler 3 (old version, they are at version 4 now, v3 don't work anyway)

and prodad and Boris FX plugins, see:

The new home of SF and the other audio products you'll find here: http://www.magix-audio.com

m2016.... simple question why all this decentralization of products and you click a link and there is a redirect? . Why is audio(Sound Forge) on magix and Vegas on its own domain without links to other SCS software? All SCS software forums were in the same place easy to access with not of this redirect stuff when clicking a link. Also why would there not be links between audio and video since you have made the decision to seperate them. Very strange as Vegas was built from an audio product.

Cielspacing wrote on 10/2/2016, 12:18 AM

Well, the redirect link is correct.
It does work when trying to access the Old Forums via favorite links from browsers. Also the old SCS Soundforge and Spectralayers forums remain intact and accessible.
These two aspects are positive.
However, so far those communitites are missing and new discussions are practically unexistent.
This could turn into a tragedy if the valuable users get lost.
The reason might be the fact that instead of the nice and VISIBLE forums either Vegas and Movie users have being welcomed at, All SCS audio communitites land into a .info page that looks like a toy catalogue... and functions worse.
See it by yourselves:
www.magix.info/us
However what is definitely wrong is that trying to access those "toy" forums from MAGIX audio pages is quite difficult.
If you went to the above link and find the rather small Forum tab, you are directed to an extra page... where NO single mention of Soundforge or Spectralayers is to be seen. Really! No single mention.
You have to guess that those new forums are under the nondistictive:
"All about MAGIX's programs Solutions, tips & tricks, discussions, feature requests" line.

Why MAGIX has chosen to locate the new forums that remotely instead of the usual one, same as Vegas, Movie and even Sequoia, Samplitude have? Is it a temporary solution? Hope so, because the complexity of such versatile tools benefits greatly from a live and vibrantly active community.
Both of us, users and developers will benefit from such.

About Soundforge Updates, those are sorely needed and I hope Magix takes the while they need to nail most of them correctly. I wouldn't like to extend in here about this, a subject for a proper Soundforge forum. I hope -at least in terms of community- Magix gets it right, as it seems is trying with VEGAS.
//By the way kudos for the transparency shown in the last two days (about the partial databases issue). This alone restores much of Magix questioned confidence by the situation generated with the offers and upgrades pricing.

It is strange that Sound Forge forum went into that "toy" format, while the Samplitude forum is hosted on IP Board, and VEGAS has yet another format. I wish they'd just used IP Board or phpBB or another proven solution like that for everything. I can't understand the strategy at all.

+1
Add to this, the fact that -if this is a transitory solution- migrating forums is always a compromise, either you loose information, familiarity from users, etc. There are countless of experiences that shows it.
Please, Magix, fix this as soon as possible.
-Again- it is for the benefit of everyone of us involved with Soundforge.

I suspect Sound Forge will quietly disappear. We did get a copy of Version 11 with the suite but I'm still using Version 10. I seem to remember there is no remote recording with version 11. There was something about it that meant it was too less useful compared to V10 to bother with. I totally agree about using phpBB or the like. This forum has way too much vertical white space

Not a chance. Your point about the reduced capacity of SF11 remote recorder (versus SF10) is true, as it is also its lack of 64 bit build,  VST3 and several other important features still missing.
However together with Spectralayers (SL) in Audio Suite, it becomes a very powerful sinergic editing tool.
I would agree with anyone stating that iZotope gained plenty of experience by its previous association with SonyCreativeSoftware, on the verge of copying... I would say; RX and other iZ software have several important features virtually copied from SF and Spectralayers. To the extent that If I were Magix and assuming they have good lawyers, I would study if there is a legal case in this.
Despite all that, SF alone has very particular scripting capacity or multichannel features that result in unique functions that are being regularly utilised by qualified audio professionals.
I understand that many of those users -like you did- have rested in their proven usage-flow since SF10 or earlier, sometimes not even bothering to check for updates.
If Magix comes with a fix for the obvious lacks, them and potential customers will surely re-consider this powerful tool upgrades.
I am -despite SL's past expensive upgrade/update historic policy-  remained a loyal user. Yes, I have been missing the obvious benefits a thriving user community would have rendered here; I had to navigate the rather steep learning curve, its usage and tricks creation, mostly alone instead.
Nevertheless, the tools are released, both SF & SL need relatively easy upgrading improvements, that Magix was able to implement in their other software, plus -to me- these tools still stand out as the ones with the best editing potential in the audio world.  If Magix gets it correctly, we might be in a very good path, quite soon.

I hope you are correct V11 was the first upgrade I skipped since I started using Sound Forge (v6 or 7)

Today, while searching for a missing video of Spectralayers I found a SoundonSound short video note made of early this year (February) when SCS spread the news of a new version of Spectralayers Pro 4 to be released plus an update of what was being prepared under the hood to be part of a new version of Soundforge.

Several important cues here; for starters a confirmation of the new features recently released by MAGIX as part of their premium DAW Samplitude Pro X3, which comes together with Soundforge 11. This way Magix recent releases were able to include -as new features of version X3-, tools that were regular from SF11 like iZotope's Mastering Tools, Dolby Digital AC-3 export (that apparently is now missing in Vegas PRO 14, and was included in Vegas PRO 13). PLUS the Namm-announcement of DDP export, which might have been fully developed by MAGIX acquisition time.
Note that the mentioned DDP feature is only used for productions to be Pressed at CD format (not for digital releases) and is utilized by mastering studios that want to make sure that the CD pressing plant will not tinker with the project sound, and achieve this by sending the actual format that comes before making the metal master. So far HOFA and another house were part of the reduced number of vendors with software DDP enabled. Since the video linked up here announces it as a coming feature from Soundforge future version upgrade it is safe to guess that MAGIX is already receiving income from their SCS deal.

///It would be very interesting to find if MAGIX is working on the rather unpresentable development lags that Soundforge 11 still has despite being regarded SONY Creative Software's top of the line Audio Editor. Namely, it is still unable to operate at 64 bits or it is unable to take advantage of multicore CPUs, plus awaits VST3 compatibility. And lets not forget that v11 surprinsinly meant a downgrade by losing the remote recording pop-up menu, plus a few other old unresolved bugs. Hopefully MAGIX releases an official announcement soon.
