split screen

I'm using HD Platinum 11, and want to use two different clips on each half of the screen.

I created a layer above each of the video clips, and made them compositing parents for my mask layers, and the set the composite modes to Multiply (mask). I created a .png file I created that is one-half transparent, one-half black, exactly 1920x1080 pixels large. I put one version on the first mask layer, and the reverse image version on the second mask layer.

I can see either one if I mute the other tracks, but I can't see both together. When I activate the upper most tracks, it blacks out the lower one.

Is there an easier way to do a split screen affect?

Here's a screen shot of my settings:

Thanks

Well, you only need one mask track, the one on top. There's no reason to mask the lower track since the upper mask is already accomplishing that for you.

Your mask should be one half black, one half white.

Add the Sony Mask Generator effect to the mask track.

And ... that's it!
