Check the manual / online help for "Setup Menu" -- it explains what to do.

Essentially, you add a menu button that points to somewhere -- be it, a video, another menu, or even back to the current menu -- and go to the Action tab of the Button Properties window. There, you'll see some settings for what do in addition to navigating to the destination -- one of which is to change (or turn off) the subtitle track.

Just about any link or action including adding a script in DVDA has the option to change audio &/or sub tracks, and turn the subs off. Default behavior is to have the subs on, contrary to most DVDs.

For each button you can set the subs to off, so if you want your DVD to behave like most, and if you don't use scene menus, then simply set this option to off for each link to the video. If you use scene menus, it's easier to set the subs off in the intro or first play video by setting this option for the end action.

Adding a menu item for turning subs on or off can be done several ways, but remember that most people who use subs are more than aware of the subtitle button on their remote, so it's not completely necessary...

The easiest way is to just have 2 links to the same video, setting the sub option on for one, off for the 2nd. Another way is to have 2 links both targeting the same menu page, 1 turning subs on, the other off. A nice twist is to have 2 identical subtitle menu pages, then either disable one of the 2 subtitle links (have the button there but inop), or add some sort of indication if subs are on or off... The button for subs on would target the menu page showing subs on, or with the subs on button disabled -- the button for subs off would link to the menu page showing them off etc.

*IF* you wanted to go all Hollywood, you can adapt some of the scripting explained here: http://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/dvd_setup_and_resume.html

I am finding that Vegas Move Studio is very difficult to navigate compared to other editing software I've used. Why is it when I insert text and play back the clip the portion where the text shows blackens out that part of the video?

Sherry-wells, you probably should have started a new thread since this one is 10 years old. Are you creating the text using the text tool in Vegas Movie Studio? Can you upload a screenshot showing your timeline, preview screen and settings?

Really, a 10 year old thread included in a 2017 Vegas manual I just purchased new a week ago. I clicked on the help link in the manual which brought up the forum and I clicked on comment. I figured it out on my own by clicking on the text button on the lower left bottom portion over the word Text. A very tiny, barely visible box started blinking, then I had to go back up to the tab on the top, click on insert, click text on the drop down menu before adding text. There may be a quicker less time consuming way but it took me long enough to figure this part out. The manual search for adding text would only bring up how to add captioning using Command from the drop down menu. I must now convert all my clips using a downloaded converter because as far as I can tell it's not including in the Vegas pkg. I am also disappointed I am unable to edit clips using my monitor screen. The editing software I was using.before had the conversion tool built into the software. I could also view my clips on my monitor which included some editing tool options that auto popped up from the bottom just by scrolling over it. Vegas does not offer this feature. I found adding text and elements a lot easier on the software I was using.

I am not sure I completely understand your complaints. Which version of Vegas did you purchase? You should be able to see all of your clips while editing on your monitor, otherwise the software would be useless. So that makes me think you don't have something set up correctly. What are your source clips? Vegas can handle a large variety of clips, but there are a view propriety formats. What software were you using previously? With these answers, either I or others will be able to offer more advice to make your use of Vegas better.

Movie Studio Suite Version 14. I can view the videos on fully on my monitor but unable to do any editing from there. I figured out the pan/crop/zoom feature but found it difficult to use. Are there any symbols/elements that come with the pkg. I haven't been able to locate any. Is there a snap shot feature to add a still scene to my clips?

It must be different from your normal workflow. You do your editing on the timeline, not on the monitor.

You might want to go through some of the short tutorials you'll find under Show Me How such as How to Edit on the Timeline and How to Add a Title. You can also "Search" online Help (F1) for articles such as Creating text and titles and The Media Generators Window. You'll get context-sensitive help by clicking the arrow+? button next to Show Me How and then clicking a part of the interface to view help about the item you clicked.

And yes, there's a snapshot feature. Hover your mouse over the two buttons furthest to the right just above your Preview screen and see options to Copy snapshot to clipboard and Save snapshot to file.

You can also start a new thread by clicking your avatar on the upper right corner and choosing New:Post from the pull-down menu. Choose a category that applies to your software.

And talking about the manual, TWIMC
