You might take a look at FastStone Image Viewer, a free slideshow program. We include it on CDs of slides that we scan for our clients. It's just what it says, an image viewer. Nothing fancy and certainly not what you can create using Vegas. But lots of folks want to be able to change the sequence in which they view their slides and this little utility allows them to so for free and with a minimum of fuss.

Thanks.  I think I may not have been clear.  I want something I can use to create/a slide show (preferrably within Vegas) and then render to a movie file.\ adding my own music, narration, etc.

You might take a look at StillMotion, a VASST FasstApps plugin

http://vasstsoftware.com/product/stillmotion/

You get a link to Sony/SCS site, which still sells it.

Works in several latest Sony VPros and Sony MSPlatinum 12 and 13. Supposed to work also in latest builds of Magix branded 13 versions.

Basic slideshow can be easily created in Vegas. Add multiple images with predefined crossfade length, add the selected transition and you're done.

Thank you for the suggestion Altervic.  As I said in the original post, I know how to do it manually, I'm looking for a software to automte it.

Other options:

1. Timeline Tools (free)

2. Vegasaur (expensive)
