Thanks for you comment.

Trial hasn't any serial number. And i'm worried about that installing the "Post-version" of Vegas Pro would totally mess up my current "ordinary" Vegas Pro 20 installation.

Just want to test Vegas Effect and Vegas Image. But maybe that's not possible.

misohoza wrote on 8/14/2022, 8:28 AM

I would deactivate the Vegas Pro you currently have. Install Vegas Pro, Vegas Effects and Vegas Image from the trial package.

You may even find the subscription cloud features work once you login to Vegas Hub. I just got the Vegas Edit 365. When I run Vegas Post 19 (perpetual) the subscription features work there too. But with Edit version limitations.

Actually I may try the Post trial too. I'm interested in what's new in Vegas Effects and whether it's worth the upgrade price from Post 19.

If you deactivate a product, please use "Deactivate the Software on this PC from the Help menu" as this option can be used as often as you wish. Please note that the option "your MAGIX account > My Products > Show More Details > Deactivate" can be used only once a month.

You probably need to (re)activate the product sooner than after a month...

Have to think about this - as it's maybe getting too complicated.

It's also very unclear if a Pro 365 license can be upgraded to a Post, or if I would need to buy a whole new additional license? Paying double until the Pro runs out, and then probably losing Sound Forge Pro as well?

However, Vegas Effect seems to have some functions that would be both handy and nice to play with. I tested Hitfilm some time ago (as I understand is almost identical with Vegas Effects), but Vegas Image is a big mystery for me.

@janndk Hi. I can't answer the 365 vs Pro/Post conundrum but i do have Hitfilm Pro version 2021.3 & Vegas Post 19, the main difference between the two is Hitfilm has a timeline where many events can be added to create a video/project of whatever length you choose, each event can then be made into a separate Composite shot where effects & alterations can be added, those alterations are then immediately seen back on the event on the main timeline, Vegas Effects is just the Composite shot part of this, the project when opened is the length of the event, it can't really be made longer, although other media can be added in VE which then shows back in Vegas Pro, If you want to know something in particular I'll try answer you, 👍

The onscreen controls/widgets, zoom window & Auto caching can be very useful,

VE can be opened by right click on the event on the Vegas Pro timeline - Edit in Vegas Effects, the edits after saving in VE show back on the timeline in VP, also VE can be opened on it's own without needing to open VP,

PS, to be honest i don't use VE much, it can slow the VP timeline down & transference of some of the plugins like Boris Continuum don't always transfer, i have to save n go back n forth to make it do as i wish, ... I can do all that using Vegas nesting which is quicker & doesn't really slow the main timeline, IF VP had a zoom window, better on screen controls & auto caching I wouldn't have Post,

VEGAS Image is a sort of hybrid of lightroom (some capability to easily edit multiple files at once as separate layers which can then be bulk-exported together into separate files, as well as some of the color controls you see in lightroom) and photoshop (brushes, clone brushes, etc)... the main difference being its approach to classifying all tools, brushes included, as effects which must be added to the image. It's pretty powerful, and can be used in place of both photoshop and lightroom, but because I've got so many years behind using Photoshop and lightroom, and I know how to do a task in either immediately vs. having to poke around in Image to figure out how to do the same thing, I rarely use VEGAS Image... though I've found myself in situations where my Adobe sub lapsed, and Image was all I had on my system, and that saved me a few times.

Hi @Former user - thanks for your comment. Would like to be able to add some 3D-objects, and do simple screen animations in Vegas, but i can also do it in separate software and then import video clips to VP. I have very simple needs, so it's maybe mostly about me wanting a new toy to play with 🤓

Former user wrote on 8/15/2022, 1:56 PM

@janndk Hi, yep i have lots of toys 👍👍😁

I use TurboCad Platinum for doing CAD drawings for my work, It can export/save as OBJ files, I wanted to include those in my YT vids so i bought HitFilm Pro, that handles them no prob, later i bought Post with VE, that handles the OBJ files no prob too, I don't use Blender or other 3D software so can't say, but I'd happily try any that are shared on Google drive... adding materials & texture is beyond me as my OBJ files don't do that but if you watch the HitFilm 3D vids i think it's the same, Vegas & Hitfilm have broken their relationship i believe, so whether V20 Post/VE will work the same i dunno..

Very simple 3D vid

Hello everybody, does anyone know if there is a official training course for Vegas effects?

Thanks @fr0sty 👍 I too have some pro photo software already, so i don't necessarily need any new. However, Vegas Image might be able to do something extra, or be handy in some other way. Unfortunately there is very little info to be found about it 😕

fr0sty wrote on 8/15/2022, 2:37 PM

It is just FXHome's Imerge rebranded, so look up info for that app instead, it'll apply the same.

@janndk Hi, V Image is nothing special, I use GIMP which I've used for yrs & can do way more stuff, V Image you can add layers, group those layers, composite layers (like Overlay, Screen etc.) , Add Masks, Add solid coloured layers, Add Text, there may be something i've missed but it is just a basic editor, I had to use Ctrl+mouse wheel to zoom which was a bit jumpy, but that might be my mouse settings & as far as i can tell it can't be opened from within Vegas Pro - ie: 'Edit in Vegas Image'

I haven't opened it since i bought it so here's 10mins of me just having a quick look n play around,

Thanks @Former user - That was so much more informative than any of those fancy presenting videos i've seen on the net! 👍😃💯👍

Former user wrote on 8/16/2022, 1:50 AM

@janndk Good 👍 to most people that video was prob nonsenses but i took it from your comment about already having photo editing software that you'd understand most of it 👍

Former user wrote on 8/16/2022, 2:37 AM

@janndk & i have to correct my comment earlier, In VE i said the timeline couldn't be extended to add more files, that was wrong, the composite shot can be made longer, new files can be then be added & applied after the orig that was opened from VP using right click 'Edit in VE' , transitions can be added although because the media files sit on top of each other, not end to end, some cutting needs to be done so the transition doesn't affect the whole event (not all my Boris transitions show in the list & none of the Vegas preset transitions)

Back in Vegas the event on the timeline just needs dragging to make it longer

Like i say i don't really use VE, my version of Hitfilm still opens from right click 'Edit in Hitfilm', maybe i need to play with it because if i upgrade V19 that link with Hitfilm might go away 🤔

Thanks again for the info, @Former user 👍🙂

I downloaded Hitfilm Free - so now playing and testing it, and trying to figure out if it's useful [in my case] or not.

Former user wrote on 8/17/2022, 1:18 PM

@janndk Free's free 👍😁👍 do you get the 'Edit in Hitfilm' if you right click on the event in VP?

PS I think i've mentioned this before, i get frustrated with VE + Boris Continuum filters, here I've messed with the colours but back in Vegas it doesn't show, Closing VE & then repeating 'Edit In VE' from the VP timeline opens VE with the colours still added 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

No, there isn't any menu/link to HitFilm. I have now both HitFilm Free and HitFilm Express installed. Let's see how it goes. But i think already that i'm goint to skip the plans for Post-upgrade (for now, anyway).

Former user wrote on 8/17/2022, 2:51 PM

@janndk Yeah, i never use it apart from the occasional 3D bits, it has the on screen controls, zoom window & auto caching but apart from that there's nothing worth buying it for, I might even downgrade if i upgrade VP/Post to Vegas Edit as i never use the Hub stuff, I have Hitfilm Pro for the 3D stuff.

Reyfox wrote on 8/19/2022, 6:54 AM

Hitfilm removed the link to Vegas a while ago. One reason I haven't upgraded Hitfilm Pro 2021.3

You can still link VP19 to HFP, save the HFP project and drag it to the VP timeline. But FXHome has "removed" that feature in the current release. But @janndk you can at least get a feel of how Vegas Effects would work.

Former user wrote on 8/19/2022, 7:56 AM

@Reyfox That's the version i have Hitfilm Pro 2021.3 👍 I'm guessing the link will go away with V20?

Reyfox wrote on 8/19/2022, 8:08 AM

@Former user, whether that context link to HFP in Vegas is gone in VP20, I don't know. I would "guess" so since FXHome has removed it from their software.

@Reyfox 👍 but is that link in the program on my pc ie. in Vegas &/or Hitfilm, if it's in Hitfilm it should be there if i don't update it, & Vegas often seems to leave a lot of features, i guess it's either hard to remove or alter them, they don't bother or they just don't want to rock the boat so they leave things as they are. so that link could still be in VP20 🤷‍♂️
