Time Code - Pause

TheLuckyDane wrote on 11/29/2018, 1:09 PM

Hi

Running Movie Studio 15.0 Platinum.

Editing handball events and added a Time Code, put some effort in making it look nice. Everything work like a charm - execpt for one thing. I want to pause the timer, let the video play, and the start the timer again and let the timer continue.

I click on "Insert/Remove Envelope" and then "Freeze Frame at Cursor". Drag it to desired lenght. But when i start the timer again it jumps forward. Can't find any options for "Hold" or "Velocity" which is described in hundreds of videoes on YouTube.

If I stop at "5:26" and start it at "6:55" on the timeline the timer jumps to "6:55" and do not continue from "5:25".

How do I pause the timer and let it continue from where I initialy stopped it.

Hard to explain but I hope you get the picture.

Did you applied the Timecode FX as Event FX or as Media FX?

As Media FX

Could you share your Movie Studio project file (without the source media) for download so I could have a closer look onto it?

Shure - no problem. Thanks for spending your time.

The problem might be that you split the Video Event of just using the Velocity Envelope to start, pause and restart the timecode.

Velocity Envelope? Marco I thought that was only in Pro? Has it been introduced to VMS and I've missed it.

I was bit confused again. I don't have MS15 installed so I tested it with VP16 while I forgot the Envelope would not be available in Movie Studio. I'll have a second look at it now.

Is the OP using build #157 (or 146) of VMS 15 Platinum?

EricLNZ wrote on 11/29/2018, 8:51 PM

Well I'm really puzzled. There are several timecodes in the project but they are not Timecode video FX. Instead they are Vegas Titles & Text using a preset "HB Penalty" which is one I don't usually have.

Marco. wrote on 11/30/2018, 12:38 AM

There is a Timecode Media FX applied onto the Event "Titles & Text 168", which is the one which is split and where the issue appears.

EricLNZ wrote on 11/30/2018, 12:46 AM

Thanks Marco, I missed that. The same is on the "Title & Text" clips on the tracks "TXT Penalty Home" and "TXT Penalty Guest".

I've tried to make a template for edit a handball match.

You got the match clock, which the referee can stop in case of Time Out, penalty, etc.

Each team has 2-3 Time Out (depending on age of players). Those time out is at a lenght of 60 sek.

A player can receive a yellow card (warning) or 2 min suspention, finaly a red card (has to leave the field)

All these thing is what I'm trying to cover using Vegas. If the solution is to by the Pro version, I would consider doing it.

Rendering the timecodes as files and importing them as j-v suggests appears the only way with Movie Studio. That way you can control what appears where. Unless Vegas Pro can achieve it. Hopefully Marco might be able to comment on that.

Not only in VMS, also in VPro.
Even the freeze frame a.s.o. in Pro gives a lot of work.
This kind of things I did a lot (during one of my hobbies: volleyball coach) and making and render first a timecode file is the most simple way to achieve this. That file you can manipulate the way you want: stop the time by cutting, making a subclip and lenghten that part with every lenght you want at the stopping time,of course with the right settings in Preferences

You can also add every extra textfile for something extra in the comment above or beneath the timecode.

What should also work:

- Do the first split.

- Apply the Freeze Envelope to the second part of the Event.

- Do the second split.

- Remove the Freeze Envelope from the third part of the Event.

I've been away for a couple of days, but is back in front of the monitors again. I'll try the solution, Marco
