Timeline Interval

Is there a way to alter the time interval in the time ruler? When I try insert a 10 - 20 second video bite I can only see a sliver on my video timeline making it near impossible to use a mouse to control fade-in, fade-out, or crossfades. I cannot find a way to modify the number of seconds of the timeline displayed in literal inch of screen space. If I stretch the video itself it merely changes playing the same 10 seconds of date over a longer period of time (say 2 minutes). This is not the effect I am after.

I'm not sure I understand your problem. Doesn't zooming in on the timeline with your mouse wheel not give you what you want?

Or drag the edge of the bar underneath the timeline.

Zoom the timeline using the mouse wheel.

Or zooming in time ("+")

or "Roll the mouse wheel forward or back to zoom out or in quickly." (as suggested above as well).

UPDATE: July 13, 2021. Feeling a bit like an idiot... As I am an advanced user of MS Office, I am in the habit of holding the CTRL key while rolling the mouse wheel to zoom in and out. That's what got me. Apparently, it never occurred to me to just scroll the wheel without pressing the CTRL key. Coupled with finally finding guidance in the SW help... Well... Color me embarrassed, but also color me thankful for everyone's quick and helpful replies.
