Timeline jumps to the end of inserted clips

I just upgraded to Movie Studio 12. When I drop clips into the timeline, the timeline jumps to the end of the clip. I always start editing from the beginning of clips, so I find this annoying. Especially for very long clips like I commonly get with helmet camera footage. Is there a way to change this behavior? Can I get it to center on the beginning of the inserted clip?

The Center in view shortcut is \ (backslash).
Use also the horizontal scrollbar.
Try dragging instead of double-clicking to add media.

Backslash helps. That takes me back to my cursor location.

I am already dragging the clip in and using the horizontal scroll bar to get back to the beginning. It just seems odd to me that it defaults to the end of the clip instead of the beginning. I would think most people start editing from the beginning of a clip. Version 11 didn't behave this way, so I was wondering if there is a setting I can change.

Actually, backslash does not help. When I drop in a new clip, it is selected, so if I hit backslash, the computer just beeps at me.

Hold down the Shift key when choosing Options > Preferences, then go to the Internal tab. Maybe there's something in there that controls that behavior.

May be a keyboard thing as it seems to work here, although I tend to use the workflow that the OP uses as well.
But MSmart is right, there are such settings in the Internal Preferences of v12. Be careful not to mess up something else.

That is what v11 used to do for me until I manually set a zoom level.

Shift preferences is a good trick I didn't know about. I found two settings that sound like they ought to fix my problem, but they don't seem to do anything.

for me VMSP 11 (and VPro 12) defaults to showing the whole project on the timeline, when new media is added.
In MSP 12, double-clicking the horizontal scroll bar will zoom the project out so that the entire length of the project will be displayed.
