Transferring Program to a new Computer

TRACEY-SCOTT wrote on 6/18/2020, 2:37 PM

Got a new computer and would like to transfer the program to it. Anything I need to know about that - number of installations/PCs permitted (if more than one)? It was an original download (not from STEAM, although I would like to know how to access it that way as I have a very active STEAM account).

Thanks

... and would like to transfer the program to it.

Which program?
There are a lot, beginners and Pro, owned original by Sony and since a few years owned by Magix, there are different rules.

From the FAQ: "9. How many computers can I use VEGAS Pro on?
You can use VEGAS Pro (14.0 and later) simultaneously on 2 devices. There are 2 ways to deactivate a device so you can activate a different one:

Visit your MAGIX account > My Products > Show More Details > Deactivate. This option can be used only once a month.

From the VEGAS Pro Help menu choose Deactivate the Software on this PC. This option can be used as often as you wish. An internet connection is required.

Older versions of Vegas Pro than 14.0 are licensed under a system (as previously used by Sony) which permits use on multiple computers by one user; after an unspecified number of installations on different or updated PCs you may need to contact support to reset your "installation count"."

The above applies to Movie Studios as well.

The versions bought from Steam are not registered with serial numbers under your MAGIX account. See e.g. this Support article.

I have Movie Studio 16. I will download and activate it on the new one, then deactivate the old- Thanks vkmast!

You don't have to deactivate just yet, I just install VMS16p on W10 (different SSD) while I still use it on W7, you can have 2 systems.

@FayFen's right. Many of us use software on two devices.

Have version 16 on old computer. Old computer broke during move to the Philippines. Google enacted a 2-level sign-in and I no longer have my US phone, so can't get into original email. Went to Magix, logged into my account, and changed personal data (email, USA to Philippines, old US phone # to new Philippine Phone #). Saved. I have the cd and the 31 digit activation code. Entered all data, but get a prompt saying, "there is no license to use this software". Please help if you can. Many thanks!!

@kenneth-werner Your software will still be registered to your original email address. Try using that address even if it's no longer active.

To change the registration to your new email address you need to contact Magix.
