Trashed video envelope cuts

jrappl wrote on 4/8/2015, 11:19 AM
If you trim the end of a video clip using the mouse, cuts from video composite envelopes move!

To reproduce drop a short clip on the timeline, create a video envelope and then do several cuts where you drop to black and then back up to the video.

Now grab the end of the video clip and drag left to trim it. As you do Movie studio moves the cuts messing up the positions. It seems to only move the last one in this case but I had it move lots of them on a more complex project.

If you trim the end of the clip it should not move the cuts at all unless one of the tick marks moves past the end of the video and maybe not even then.

BTW: if you split and delete to trim it does not move the cuts.

Am I doing something wrong? Is this a known bug? Any there other known problems editing after setting up envelopes?

I'm not entirely clear what you're describing, jrappl. Can you post a screen capture to YouTube so we can see it?

Meantime, have you tried changing the option to Lock Envelopes to Events to see if that changes this behavior?

Try trimming with the mouse, when you have expanded track layers (right-click the track header and choose). Have Lock envelopes to event and Auto Ripple (in Config) selected. See if the problem still occurs.

I do have Lock envelopes to events set, I'll have to check auto ripple but that should not have anything to do with a single clip on the timeline and trimming it should it?

I may have some time tonight to do a video. If so I will post the link.

I see you're on MSPlatinum 12, not 13 as I assumed. Have you updated to the latest build? Some early v. 12 builds had envelope points problems. I'm not able to test with v 12 at the moment. In your specific case, have you tried unlocking envelopes?
Your profile info that you refer to in another thread is not visible to us. See advice in 4. Sticky on the Vegas Pro forum.

Sorry, I thought that info was available. I just updated my settings and added a check to display system info on profile. I do have 12, build 1184. When I check for updates it says I have latest.

Can I have both v12 and v13 installed at the same time?

Yes, you can have them both installed at the same time.

I just posted a short video to demonstrate the problem.

Try unchecking Auto Ripple.
It "automatically moves the contents of the timeline after performing edits that add or remove time".

Ok, thanks. Turning off Auto Ripple does seem to prevent the problem. I normally don't have that on but just finished a slide show and used it for transitions.
I still think it is a bug. Nothing should change before the edit point...
