Trimmer settings to lock in video only

ram17 wrote on 10/2/2018, 7:59 AM

Is there any possible settings in the trimmer window where i could consistently lock it in video only or is there an internal preference settings to this maybe? Its inefficient for me to always press the TAB key to choose video only then A to drop it to timeline. Example, i have a 350 clips to trim so i should have to press TAB for another 350 times just to have video only.

I don't think there is but if you have a control surface like the Shuttle Contour, you could create a Macro that would select video only and add that to the timeline based on you IN and OUT points.

What if you just add both video and audio and then delete the audio track once you have all 350 there?

@jetdv

Yes it's a good idea, but if that is the case i would use the new hoverscrub feature of Vegas by setting the in-out region in the project media & then press Enter to drop it to timeline.

But my technique is actually set in & out in trimmer, dropping & arranging it by its designated camera angle.

For example, i am trimming cam 1 & drop it in track 1, cam 2 to track 2, cam 3 to track 3, so on so fort..so i don't want to include another many audio tracks. I have this style in Premiere which works just by disabling the audio in timeline.

@david

I don't have that equipment, so i think i would try another workaround.

If you are dragging the clips using the mouse to their respective tracks, use RIGHT CLICK and drag. It gives you the option for Video only.

@ram17
Which Vegas Pro version do you use? I have a macro which does what you want by pressing "alt+a". I could share the macro EXE file.

david-tu's suggestion gives you this

@david

That seems a good one combined with the new feature in Vegas 16 to set in-out points in project media & just right click drag it to the timeline.

@marco

I am in Vegas16.261..Thanks

@vkmast

Yup thanks for the info

Here is the download for the macro file. Unzip, run "AddVideo.exe" then when you've set your in and out points in the Vegas Pro trimmer press "Alt+a" to add video only to the timeline.

Remember this is a macro, not a Vegas script. It does not use a dedicated function to add video only but it only triggers the Tab key, waits a fraction of a second, then triggers the key "a". Thus if the trimmer is already set to video only, this makro would set it to audio only (or if it was set to audio only it would set it to video and audio).
This version is made to only work with Vegas Pro 16 to prevent any other window being affected from the macro. It is an EXE file (a compiled AHK script) so it would also work if the macro software itself (AutoHotkey) isn't installed on your system.
