Trying to fit onto a DVD

FoskeyMedia wrote on 4/30/2017, 7:03 PM

I have three files I need to get on a DVD. I've rendered them several times, bringing the bit rate down to variable with a max of 5,800,000. In the end, they wind up taking 93% of the DVD space but it still won't let me prepare it. When I try to Optimize it tells me that it can not be compressed because the bit rate is too low.

Is there any way to get this on the disc (with optimal quality of course..it's a concert)?

Is it actually not letting you prepare or is it just giving you a warning? I have never had it not allow a prep. If it is just a warning, ignore it and proceed.

Ignore. What's the total play time?

FoskeyMedia wrote on 5/1/2017, 7:09 AM

It's not letting me prepare, so I can't go any further.

Never heard of that. Can you post a screen shot of the error message.

Here is a possible solution form the link vkmast provided:

I got an answer that I wanted to share. Sony Creative support told me to Open the progam while holding "CRTL and SHIFT". This gives you this option.

Check the box to delete all cached application data and Choose "YES".

After I did this, the bit rate stayed at 8 in the properties window and I did not get the error message that the track cannot be recompressed because its bit rate is too low.

It cost me $29.95 to get this answer so I hopes somebody else!
Thanks for all you who have helped me in the past!

Final post:

I finally figured out why this was happening. It's not a bug. It's a setting. Therefore, it's not just a matter of resetting the program settings by starting it up and pressing CTRL+Shift. It wanted to recompress my videos before burning them, but the bitrate it wanted to recompressing them to was lower than the allowed bitrate as entered in the settings.

Do the following:

Go to Options > Preferences
Click on the "Burning" tab.
Check the "Minimum Video Bit Rate" setting. If it's higher than what the program is trying to recompress your video at when you go to burn (or output to folder), change the minimum setting so that it'll allow it.

Mine was set to 5.000 Mbps. The recompression needed to go to 3.6. So, I set the minimum to 3.5 and the problem disappeared. The reason clearing the program's cache and resetting all the settings works for this problem is because the default setting is 2 Mbps, which is usually low enough for just about anything.

But you don't want DVDA recompressing, so if it warns it is going to recompress, try to determine why.

See Bit-Budgeting section on Adobe's Project Planning.

I still follow this same rule as like I found it first time many years ago - and it is very similar one to Vegas render - DVD authoring. I always did render with specific bitrate directly to fit for disc's size.

OK, I" M Going to try these things. I tried the CTRL & SHIFT and it did nothing, No dialogue box. just opened as usual. Maybe because I 'ave DVDA 6.0 and/or Win 10?

Here's what I get now. As you can see the bitrate is quite low. When I click FIX DISK nothing happens. It just ignores me. Really hurts my feelings....

If I click OK it just takes me back here....

FoskeyMedia wrote on 5/1/2017, 12:17 PM

OK I changed the minimum to .191 in OPTIONS. It's rendering now... the question is.... how crappy is it going to be? This is a concert... so they want good quality. It's still calculating time which makes me think it's going to take quite a while to render. I will go do some more work and report back

<SIDE NOTE> David-Tu...why did it cost you $29.95??? Does sony/magix charge for service??

Former user wrote on 5/1/2017, 12:47 PM

Sorry, that wasn't my post. I copied that from the Creative Cow listing so it didn't cost me anything. I assume the original poster paid for support from either Magix or Sony. I

It didn't cost David that. This was mentioned by the poster in the CC thread I linked to. Pls read the original.

As for resetting, see if there's something here you should note.

The 'Default Video bitrate (Mbps)' slider was set too low. Set it to around 3-4 Mbps.

On the other hand, some years ago, I had this little frustration bug too when I set a different default preferences settings - if I remember, setting the default video bitrate - and then I had to set audio bitrate higher every time I want to authoring a DVD.

After resetting the DVDA preferences to default - the problem goes away.

Last changed by set on 5/1/2017, 6:24 PM, changed a total of 1 times.

I wanted to report back. MY problem was fixed...but not a real solutiom, I realized I had used the entire file for Act 1 as the DVD menu background image. That ate up my space. Once I cut that down from a 40 minute file to about 3-4 minutes.. I had plenty of room (about 80% usage). So I was able to print.

I will keep thise notes for when I really do run into a space problem.
THANK YOU ALL!!!
