Trying to Register Movie Studio Plat 12 :P

Brian-Bullock wrote on 7/13/2025, 4:52 AM

I've sent ticket requests to support twice in two weeks and have yet to get an answer, and I really need this product to work on my new machine. I've installed Movie Studio Platinum 12 and now it wants me to register the product before I can use it.

The problem is that the server used to do the registering appears to be down (maybe dead?) with the error 12002 and so I have no viable means of progressing.

What can be done about this?

I just tried to register a Sony-era Vegas Pro 13 and I also get a registration failure:

... so it would seem that the old Sony registration/activation is down.

As this forum is a user-to-user forum, none of your fellow Vegas users have any access to the registration/activation system so it's going to have to be a matter of keeping in touch with the Vegas Support team and await their response.

A possible alternative is, especially if you have a good modern computer, is to use the VMS12 serial number and upgrade to Vegas Pro 22 with lower upgrade pricing. Vegas Pro should be able to open VMSP12 .vf project files so your older VMSP12 should still be able to be worked on. Vegas Pro 22 has a 30 days free trial so there's the opportunity for you to try it out for yourself

I appreciate the alternative but I'm in no financial position for a good while for such an upgrade... Perhaps definately later though, thanks for the suggestion!

I'm also just now figuring out Magix (where I downloaded the installer) and Vegas are two different teams (I was sent from the Magix forum to over here to repost my question.

I'm assuming the support crew are also different persons? Meaning i should maybe repost my report ticket over here instead of the Magix site?

All this is very silly and confusing :P

For the Vegas Support team, click on the Support tab in the forum header and then click on the Vegas Pro logo - this will take you to the Vegas Help Centre where there is a Contact Support 'SEND E-MAIL' button at the bottom of the page.

The same error here trying to register SVMSP 12. Will try again later.

Possibly this may also apply: "after an unspecified number of installations on different or updated PCs you may need to contact support to reset your "installation count".(Sony versions).(From this FAQ item 9.)

that is a possibility. However there is that second option in the registration app that lets you register from another computer by spitting out a portable html document that auto directs you to the webpage that would generate an activation code. That page doesn't work anymore :P

So this is definitely a server issue I'm thinking

I will reach out to the server team and try to find out what is happening here. This should still be working.

Thank you for your service, that would be awesome!

I eventually caved and dropped a loan on the upgrade package (the perpetual license) I hope to god its worth it (and I'm sure that it is all things considering)

Still, this server problem should be resolved for other legacy software users. I might still go back and tinker with MSP12 if I find Vegas is missing a feature I need or something :P
