Upgrade to Vegas 13 and Render to AVI is gone

jeff-o wrote on 11/29/2016, 9:15 AM

My render times in the presets for Vegas platinum 13 have jumped significantly. I went to Advanced and tried to select AVI for Windows like I used to do in Vegas 12 and get an error message about using the wrong argument...Help Please I use this program to teach high school kids and now all my machines say a 5 minite video will take 1-3 hours to render.

Thanks,

Jeff

In Movie Studio Platinum 13 I don't have any Avi for Windows in Advanced Options
There is Video for Windows, but there I have to make another choice which also can be customized by choosing another AVI codec than DV.
Which one did you choose and do you have the choice shown in my screenshot of VMS 13

When I try to click on advanced options I get an error message: "An error ocurred while creating the media file. An Invalid arguement was specified." I cannot get to the screen you showed. It is what I am trying to get to.

Thank you

jeff-o, do you have Sony MSP 13 build 955 (or earlier) or one of the later MAGIX rebranded builds?

Don't know about Magix ones, but with Sony you might try resetting to see if it would help?

I just reset it and still get the same error. It is on a network and I installed a second license on a second machine and it too gives me the same error message. Other ideas? Thank you

Im seeing on other forums I need to not use 1920x1200 resolution is whats causing the invalid argument warning.
Select a standard output resolution. What is the correct resolution I should use? Does this sound right?

I have the old sony vegas vesion 12 proir to Magix on several of my other machines and just checked my project settings on those, where I can stil render as I desire, and the project settings match the ones used in Vegas 13. This is a picture of my project settings on my oler version.

I use canon vixia or sony cameras to save video AVCHD to an SD card and then upload those files to my network location then import them to vegas, edit and render into NTSC DV Wisescreen AVI file to use in a livestream using my Tricaster.

Sounds like there is a problem with your installation still, even though you've got it working. You should be able to set any (reasonable) resolution you wish without being limited to a few defined formats. And, additionally, you shouldn't get an error message like that in any case. It indicates a general program fault rather than a helpful warning. Most of the other rendering formats gracefully handle resolution settings. For example, MPEG/MP4 settings will always adjust the dimensions to the nearest multiple of 8 or 16 as the format requires without generating an error. DV simply doesn't let you choose anything besides 720x480 (NTSC) or 720x576 (PAL). Getting the error message you see indicates the software isn't working properly.
