Upgrading from 10 to 12

Phartz wrote on 6/4/2013, 11:09 PM
I've tried the v12 demo and really like it relative to my old Platinum 10. I plan to upgrade to 12. Thing is, I don't currently have v10 installed since I upgraded to Windows 8 Pro 64 bit some months ago.

The question: Will I be able to get through the upgrade process by showing it the v10 CD or entering the auth key or whatever? Or, will it want to see v10 actually installed? I'd rather avoid installing the old version again if I can.

Thanks

Phartz,
to purchase v12 at the upgrade price you need a qualifying serial number, which in your case would be the v10 serial number. To complete the installation process of v12, you will need the serial number you receive with your purchase.

Above you can go to My Account and My Software.
There you can upgrade to 12 - and then you get the serial number for installing a full V12.
V10 will not be needed.

Possibly more to the point, the concept of "upgrade" in the Sony Creative Software world refers ONLY to the discount price you get from presenting your older serial number at the time of the purchase. Once the purchase is complete, your new version isn't really an upgrade; it's an actual full complete version with it's own serial number, completely and totally independent of the version you used to get the discount.

So, after the purchase, no you don't need to have the old version or serial number lying around, and you don't have to have it installed. In fact, if you uninstall it, you can give it away to someone else and they can install and register it. Two caveats: it's strongly suggested that you contact Sony's customer service and inform them of the transaction, and they'll disable your serial number and issue a new one to the other person. And, that person can't use their serial number to get the upgrade discount.

That was the extended version.
