v11 projects won't convert..

gmes29 wrote on 11/28/2014, 5:00 PM
to v13 when loaded. i keep getting an error saying 'project appears to have been created in an older version of VMS.... you may have recreate the project'. why? seems to me v13 should be smart enough to convert the older project to the newer format. most other software works this way. i really would rather not have to re-edit the entire video and reset the markers. any suggestions?

sorry if this has been posted before - couldn't find it.

gmes,
did it load in spite of the warning? If so, did you check if it loaded correctly or not? It seems there may be somewhat of a bug here judging by the experiences reported by some of us in the thread below
Movie Studio 13...opening projects

Remember too though that "When using the 64-bit version of Movie Studio Platinum, third-party plug-ins will work only if they are 64-bit plug-ins. Please check with the plug-in vendor for available updates. You can share projects between 32- and 64-bit versions of Movie Studio Platinum installations, performing editing as needed in 32-bit Movie Studio Platinum and finishing the project in 64-bit Movie Studio Platinum."

it did load in spite of the warning but even though the audio is fine, the video plays back as all black or green. but text events added to the video track display fine. don't think it's the video itself though since it loads and plays fine in a new v13 project.
unfortunately i can't try the cut and paste thing because i just upgraded to a Win 8.1 machine and since i was setting up a new machine anyway, decided to upgrade to and install v13 only. not even sure i still have the install for v11.

The v 11 install file is available from your My Account > My Software and here.
gmes29 wrote on 11/29/2014, 6:43 AM
well, after all that (reinstall of v11), cut and paste didn't work either.
any idea if this has been reported or when it will be fixed? pretty dumb i have to recreate the entire project and i'm obviously not the only one who has seen this.
thx for the help..

I haven't reported it because I haven't been able to reproduce the issue of not loading correctly.
You should.

Btw, did you try to copy a project from v 11 32-bit and paste it into v 13 32-bit?
gmes29 wrote on 11/29/2014, 10:47 AM
nope.. my v13 is 64 bit which may have something to do with it. didn't even know there was a 32-bit version of v13. did i miss something on the download/install?

gmes, I don't know if you're already aware of this but here goes. In order to cut and paste you have to have your project open in VMS11 at the same time as a new project open in VMS13. You can't open your project in VMS11, copy the timeline, close VMS11, open VMS13 and then paste onto the timeline.
Forgive me if you already know this.

You can have both 32-bit and 64-bit versions installed. The install files for both can be found where you found the v 11 one. Use the pull-down menus.
gmes29 wrote on 11/29/2014, 1:38 PM
yes, i had both open at the same time..

as far as the versions are concerned, i was trying to load a 32 bit (v11) project into 64 bit v13 so i figured there was an incompatibility issue there. to try and fix, i downloaded the trial version of v13 32-bit and gave that a try.. same result. still couldn't cut/paste between what was now 2 32-bit versions. i'm stumped. if i reported this, i might as well just recreate the project since the time spent doing that would be far lesser than the time it would take for Sony to make the fix and distribute it.

but that brings up another question. since i've already paid for, installed and registered v13 64 bit, what would the procedure be for licensing/registering v13 32 bit if i wanted to replace the 64 bit version with the 32 bit version? i already have the license so does it get transfered in that case?
vkmast wrote on 11/29/2014, 1:43 PM
Your license for v 13 64-bit is valid for v 13 32-bit. Just install and enter your serial number. You do not need to replace it, you can have both.
Copy and paste v 11 32-bit > v 13 32-bit works for me without problems/warnings.

turns out that project i was trying to load was already rendered to an avi and a disc image/dvd created from it. this was a year old project so i didn't remember how far i got with it last year.
but the problem still exists even with new projects. some mp4's work fine when added but others have a problem. m2ts files same thing. i will report this now because it's no longer a case of converting an old versions project to a new version - happens on new ones as well in both 32 and 64 bit.
btw, i have windows 8.1. is anybody else running on that? maybe VMS 13 works a bit better on 7.
