The first thing to look at is the GPU driver you are using as ntdll.dll is a central windows system file. Please post your graphics card and driver version.

How about the NVIDIA driver? You are on the latest Studio driver?

andyrpsmith wrote on 12/1/2020, 8:50 AM

Your intel 630 has no onboard graphics memory while the 1660 has 6gb. One suggestion to try once you have the latest studio driver installed is to temporarily disable the intel 630 graphics to see if stability improves.

What media is this exactly? Use MediaInfo to report.

Canon EOS 80D and 6D markII in mp4 Fhd 50fps

My impression is that it's a buffer management issue peculiar to v18. Gotten less frequent with each update as they cure other bugs but not gone yet. My workflow involves doing audio envelope editing first with just a simple video track visible so I can see what's happening. And the more I replay segments to home in on audio glitches, the more frequently it happens. Video driver version seems to not have any impact on systems with amd, nvidia, and/or intel gpus regardless if they're studio, enterprise, or gaming drivers. Only one of the two v18 systems I have in daily operation has an intel igpu but I have migrated my license across them all for testing. Happens less frequently when editing HD projects but they are not immune. Turning on "Live Save" seems to delay it somewhat with the advantage that when it happens, the last edit is present after I do a forced exit with task manager and restart... downside is I cannot back out of the last few edits with ctrl-z if I regret them but I can restore from the bak file which omits some number of previous edits. It also happens on occasion in multicam edit mode but I don't do as many repetitive replays there so it's not as frequent an occurrence. If I do the audio edit phase in v17 build 451 (same system and drivers) it never hangs. In spite of this annoyance I like working in v18 better so I live with it and await the next update.

Hmm, those files shouldn't be so difficult for Vegas.

The time I notice crashes is when Vegas isn't able to playback the files at full FPS- it lags and eventually hangs. Are you using preview/full or another display setting so it's able to playback at full 50fps? If not, try proxy files or reducing preview quality to keep it at full frame rate.
MusicVid has a few good suggestions in the thread he linked to above.

You also didn't answer the studio driver question- it made a difference with my NVIDIA card.

I thought i was using the iGPU UHD630, but apparently i was mistaken, it was the GTX1650 which was hanging Vegas. I switched to UHD 630, is stable now but i dont get 25fps but about half of it.. my preview window settings are always in Preview/Half. I cannot understand the stubborness of Vegas not to cooperate with nVidias GPU. I had this issue also to my previous laptops and only solution was to use the iGPU which works but with lattencies so i have to SHIFT+B some parts to see how the edit goes...

My Preview Window is always at Preview/Half quality, although i edit almost flawlesly my GH5 4K MP4 100MBPS footage those of Canon Mp4 80mbps are a pain in the ass all these years.

I use the GTX 1050 without many issues and I've seen Magix staff encourage people to use the 16 series cards as they are a good value and well tested with Vegas.

Are you on the latest Studio driver? Latest one came out Nov 17th: link

Vegas actually works with both cards at once. Under File I/O decoding is set by default to Intel. The Nvidia does other graphics acceleration if enabled.

I have latest Nvidias Studio drivers. It is almost realtime of timeline playback now but every now and then it just crashes/freezes and i lose my edits. Is it because i use FBMNs White Balance plugin to my clips?

For me, the 4K files of the Sony FDR-AX53 freeze if I move the scrubber too fast.
Proxy files were the game changer.
HD files from the same camera slide like butter.

Have you already tried Proxy-Files? @RogerS has already suggested it to you.
