Vegas 18 User Interface - Thumbnail/button Strangeness

amendegw wrote on 5/13/2021, 12:26 PM

Hi all! It's been a few years since I've posted any questions here but I've recently upgraded my version of Vegas from Version 12 to Version 18 and have discovered some strangeness in the user interface. The Thumbnails/buttons are not displaying properly. The best way to describe the issue is shown in the following screencast.

The specs of my laptop area bellow.

System Model:        Alienware Area-51m R2
Processor:        Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10700K CPU @ 3.80GHz, 3792 Mhz, 8 Core(s), 16 Logical Processor(s)
Installed Memory (RAM)    32.0 GB
Display Adapter:    NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 Super (8GB), Nvidia Studio Driver 462.59
Display:        1920x1080 144 hertz
Storage (8TB Total):
OS Drive:    PM981a NVMe SAMSUNG 2048GB
Data Drive1:    Samsung SSD 970 EVO Plus 2TB
    Data Drive2:    Samsung SSD 860 EVO 4TB

USB: Thunderbolt 3 (USB Type-C) port Supports USB 3.2 Gen 2, DisplayPort 1.2, Thunderbolt 3

Can anyone help in fixing this problem?

Thanks,
...Jerry

@amendegw Is your graphics card driver up to date. Check with 'Help/Check For Driver Updates'.

If that doesn't help, check out the solution in this post to see if it applies to your system.

@amendegw

Here's the first thing I'd try...

amendegw wrote on 5/13/2021, 1:49 PM

Thanks so much @Jack S & @john_dennis

I have to admit I was rather dubious about the driver update solution because my Intel Driver was only about a month old and my Nvidia driver was the latest - just released this week. However, I figured... okay I'll update the Intel Driver. What can it hurt? And Viola! the Intel update fixed the problem.

For those that are unaware... many (most?) laptops use a combination of motherboard and add-in Display Adapters for power saving.

Thanks again!

Whoops! False alarm. Vegas is back to the same behavior as shown in my screen cast. 😢

Other ideas?

SWAG

Do you have Display Scaling set to 100% at the native pixel dimensions of your monitor?

amendegw wrote on 5/14/2021, 3:48 PM

@john_dennis, A good thing to check but it was already set at 100%. I tried a couple other settings and the strangeness still occurred.

Solved! The fix was in a Vegas 18 setting (preference). There is a (new to Vegas 18) setting named "Use Alternate HighDPI Settings". .

Once I unchecked that option the problem disappeared.

Thanks for those who commented on my question.

Thanks for posting the solution, Jerry! I haven't tired the "alternate" high dpi setting, nor do I think I shall.

Looks to me the Nahimic-related application issue.

In case the problem still exist:

Try go to Internal Preferences (press Shift while click Options, then go to Internal...),

Here find "GPU acceleration for Windows Platform Foundation (WPF) panels", then change TRUE to FALSE.

Turns out the "GPU acceleration for Windows Platform Foundation (WPF) panels" flag was already set to FALSE. Possibly it was set when I switched off the HighDPI setting??

The strange thing is that I turned on HighDPI once again and "GPU acceleration for Windows Platform Foundation (WPF) panels" remained FALSE. But... my display is working fine. So I'm happy.

Thanks,
