Vegas 19 constantly crashing

Deuce wrote on 4/19/2022, 7:26 AM

I upgraded to Vegas 19 is constantly crashing when doing simple tasks. I had a small project open and clicked BCC Title Studio and it crashed. A couple other times it crashed when I clicked in the search field with an empty project! The program is completely useless at the moment.

Turning off GPU acceleration helped with it crashing when clicking on FX, etc. but then I clicked in the search box and it crashed again.

@Deuce Have you checked that you have the latest graphics driver? Use the 'Check for Driver Updates' under the Help option. Make sure you select the Studio driver (if it's NVIDIA), not the Game Ready one.

I just purchased and installed the upgrade so it's a brand new install. The only thing I changed from "factory default" was unchecking 'GPU acceleration' in Preferences. Clicking on VideoFX then clicking in the search field shouldn't crash it.

Former user wrote on 4/20/2022, 7:38 AM

@Deuce Hi, the search box does take a long time to populate the first time it's used, you have to be patient with that. , if you haven't done the reset as Dexcon suggested try going to C:\Users\your name\AppData\Local\VEGAS Pro\19.0, there's a couple of plugins files at the bottom of the BIN section but i would just delete everything in that folder, Vegas will take a moment to load next time but it will rebuild all those files including reloading your plugins

Dexcon wrote on 4/20/2022, 7:48 AM

Thank you for the update.

It got me thinking that the problems have occurred with BCC Titler Pro and also when using the search function (presumably in the Video FX window) on a blank project - so not media related. This might mean that there is an issue with a 3rd party plugin. One way to check this is to go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\OFX - where 3rd party OFX plugins are located - and move any entries to another folder of your choice on the drive or an external drive, so that the Common Files\OFX folder is emptied. Then open Vegas Pro 19. If it opens and functions without a problem, then that will identify an OFX plugin as being the problem. If so, one by one move back the OFX plugins back into the Common Files\OFX folder. If the Vegas Pro crash problem occurs after an OFX return, you've likely identified the plugin package that is causing the problem. If this occurs, it is possible that the plugin doesn't support Vegas Pro 19.

No guarantees with the above, it's just a possibility.

@Former user I tried that but as soon as I went to Video FX and did a search it crashed.

@Dexcon I'll give that a try.

Thanks everyone for trying to help me figure this out. Very frustrating.

Deuce wrote on 4/20/2022, 8:38 AM

@Dexcon Bingo! In the OFX Plugins folder there were 2 plugins from 2019 (I assume from my Vegas 16) - HitFilmVegasBasic and NewBlue (there's also the NewBlueFX folder from the v19 install). The culprit ended up being the old NewBlue folder.

I'm even able to enable GPU acceleration and everything seems to be working fine. The only little issue I have now is when I click in the VideoFX search field I get an error (attached) which I assume is from deleting the NewBlue folder. How do I get rid of the error popup? It pops up 2-3x before I can continue on.

Dexcon wrote on 4/20/2022, 8:50 AM

@Deuce  ... that is excellent news that the crash problem with Vegas Pro has been resolved. Re the NBFX problem, hopefully @jetdv (an NBFX expert) might be able to assist with this.

jetdv wrote on 4/20/2022, 9:49 AM

@Deuce Delete all NewBlue folders from the common files\OFX\Plugins folder. That should eliminate that. Then just reinstall any plugins that should be there.

Deuce wrote on 4/20/2022, 10:19 AM

@jetdv Does NewBlue Titler Pro come with V19 Post? I see Titler Pro 2 in the Common Files>OFX>NewBlueFX folder but in V19 it shows as Title Pro 3 although the description below it refers to Titler Pro 7.

jetdv wrote on 4/20/2022, 11:17 AM

Live2Post includes and extremely limited version of Titler Pro 7. You can get VEGAS to read the correct version by clearing the cache. That might also eliminate that error message. I'd reinstall Live2Post, though and then clear the VEGAS cache.

The Live2Post Titler will allow importing titles created with VEGAS Stream. It will NOT allow creating new titles on the VEGAS timeline.

Deuce wrote on 4/20/2022, 12:29 PM

@jetdv I deleted the NewBlueFX folder, re-installed Live2Post then cleared the Vegas cache and the error popup is gone. NB Titler Pro 7 now shows up but when I add it to the timeline and click "Open Titler Pro" nothing happens.

That is correct. Live2Post can only be used when importing a VEGAS Stream that has titles. As I said above:

The Live2Post Titler will allow importing titles created with VEGAS Stream. It will NOT allow creating new titles on the VEGAS timeline.

If you wish to create new titles direct on the timeline, you will need a purchased version of Titler Pro 7 which would replace Live2Post and still work with VEGAS Stream.

Deuce wrote on 4/20/2022, 2:13 PM

Ok, I thought you meant Live2Post had a very limited version but Vegas Pro had a full working version. I was confused when the NB Titler Pro 7 plugin showed up in Vegas Pro and figured it was a fully functional plugin.

Thanks for your help!

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who helped me resolve my issues. Thank god there's some smart people on here as Magix support has been no help whatsoever.

windmill wrote on 4/21/2022, 5:38 PM

Same problem & (thanks again) tried all this, nothing works But! when I went to uninstall/reinstall as a first step the uninstaller complained it couldn't access network E:Documents\ and halted. Know there's 3rd party workaround uninstallers if you're reading, have That happen and are desperate for 19 now. Am hoping on a post 5xx patch before I am. Had this won't even load thing with matrox in the 2000s, so blessed 16 works.

Good that you had your issues resolved. Forum users should make sure though that they are contacting VEGAS Support, not MAGIX Support which is different.

@Deuce

Yes, it was Vegas support I've been talking to.

Every time I update the program crashes.. I would make the changes suggested on you tube and it would fix the problem now the latest update and here we go again.. crashes over and over. Why can't they work this out with the new updates??? Movie studio 17.. I gotta switch programs pretty soon.. Any suggestions?

EricLNZ wrote on 5/18/2022, 5:58 PM

@steve-r Suggest you start your own thread and give more details so you can be helped. Some of the suggestions on YouTube may be giving more problems than resolution.

Also post in the Movie Studio forum section if you are using VMS17. This is a Vegas Pro 19 thread that you've posted in.
