Also note that the basic Movie Studio versions were/are rather restricted versions of the more advanced MS Platinum.

PS: What I'm trying to do is use the program to render a video for Instagram's website. It says the video has to be vertical, with an aspect ratio of 9:16. I've seen some videos on YouTube, in which the person hosting the tutorial does it fine. But, the options that they use in the videos, don't seem to appear in my version of the software.

That looks strange to me.
I have Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Version 10 still installed and there it is possible, so a newer version should have lost that ability?

I don't know, I bought Vegas Movie Studio 10 HD many years ago and this is my version: Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10.0.
I also figured out that in my older Movie Studio 9 it is not possible to customize default templates , which I did in my screengrab of VMS 10 (Pl)

Maybe OP is able to look if the customized templates are possible in his version 10.

The OP says "I have Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Version 11.0". There was the restricted basic version of 11 as well as the Platinum.

If OP has that basic 11 version he is unable to customize the default build-in rendertemplates, which not have the aspect ratio of 9:16
