Vegas Post (19) not working with my copy of Vegas Edit (20)

Cmin7669 wrote on 9/16/2022, 1:02 AM

I have Vegas Post (19) but have just purchased VP(20 Edit) but to my total disappointment I find that I cannot open tracks in VE(19) from VP(20). This is simply NOT good enough!

Please can someone tell me how to get a refund on VP(20). I have only had it for 24hours.

You cannot expect an older version to open a newer version's project. VEGAS Pro 20 will open VEGAS Pro 19 projects. VEGAS Pro 19 will not open VEGAS Pro 20 projects. That's a normal thing that happens as new features are added.

Personally, I'd stick with VEGAS Pro 20 and move all of my projects to there. There's nothing 19 will do that 20 won't and 20 has more features and is more stable.

In my experience since Vegas Pro 10, the only Vegas Pro version that was backward compatible with the previous version was Vegas Pro 12 (back to 11 only). - but that's some 10 years ago.

A trial version of Vegas Pro 20 was available to test it out before purchasing.

Well, it'll host Boris Continuum OFX properly, which 20 does not. And currently, apart from an "it's being worked on" we have no idea when that'll be fixed. Which means that for now those of us using BCC need to stick to 19

Vegas Pro Suite 22.0 Build 250
Boris FX Continuum for OFX 2025 Build 18.5.0.441 - 113
Boris FX Mocha Pro Plug-in 2025 v12.0.1 build 46

ASUS PRIME Z390-P motherboard
Intel Core i7-97000K @ 3.6GHz

GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER

To add to @MikeS comment about Boris, Black Bar fill - doing Dynamic RAM & Selective prerender is abysmally slow, I've got VP20 but I'm still using VP19.

I think the point of the OP's post has been missed tho, It's not about the .veg, it's that VE19 doesn't open from VP20, whether it's Edit or not, why can't VP20 see VE, is there a line of code in Post that isn't in Pro or Edit, or is it just because it's 19 & not 20?

PS I 'upgraded' to VP20 Edit, VE19 is grumpy on my machine, sometimes i have to go back & forth to get it to transfer the effects to VP, & it won't transfer any BCC effects added in VE, so i didn't bother with Post this time. I wasn't surprised that 'Edit in VE' wasn't in the right click options but i was a little disappointed despite what i write about it not always working.

Note that VEGAS Edit 20 (which the OP purchased) does not include VEGAS Effects, only VEGAS POST 20 does.

Former user wrote on 9/16/2022, 9:16 AM

@vkmast Yeah obviously, but VE is on his system, I think the disappointment is that VP20 doesn't recognise it, & that the version of VE purchased is only compatible with the VP version purchased at the same time, ie. VE19 can only be opened in VP19 etc.

vkmast wrote on 9/16/2022, 9:32 AM

Actually, it seems that VEGAS Edit 20 does not recognize it.

Former user wrote on 9/16/2022, 9:46 AM

@vkmast Nope VP20 Edit doesn't recognize VE19 on mine, to be honest i never use it, but seeing as I'm still using VP19 (Post) I still have it available,

vkmast wrote on 9/16/2022, 9:55 AM

It figures.

As it happens I did get the trial version and played around with it for a week, it seemed stable which was my biggest worry. I tried pretty much everything, except opening a clip in VE19. It never occurred to me that that would even be something that I needed to check. I must have looked through the Magix advertising page for Vegas at least six times to check on what it (Vegas Edit) would not do, before purchasing it. No mention of this restriction!!

Magix marketing (tricks) department are very careful not to highlight any limitations of the software and what it will not do. I liken it to avoiding the truth when asked by a law officer.

I would have not have purchased Vegas Post in the first place if I had known of Magix's deceitful approach to their own customers.

I will get my money back and properly look elsewhere as new software packages are released, I am done with Magix for good this time.

My understanding is that it has been a long while since you were able to open newer version projects in earlier versions. It's been posted several times. Even within VP19's various builds, after a certain update, you could not open the same project in an earlier build.

I don't think that marketing purposely "forgot" to add that. Many software don't do this for various reasons. So where they were deceitful in VE2019 I don't know.

What I have done is open VP19 project, copy the timeline and I could paste it on the timeline of VP18.
