Vegas Post 20 365 Crashes Searching For VST Plugins

Sassylola wrote on 9/9/2022, 4:09 PM

I have been in contact with Magix support now for a few weeks and all of the solutions offered have not worked.

When I open Vegas it will search for VST Plugins and at 50 to 75% it will crash offering me a error report to send. If I hold Shift/Ctrl Vegas will start normal, or restart my PC. When I uninstalled Vegas 19 thinking there was a conflict, 20 would get to the VST plugin and the splash screen would just disappear without a error report to send.. I reinstalled 19 and now a error report comes up to send with 20 when it crashes.

I do not have third party VST plugins installed.

This does not happen all of the time, but it happens more than it does not happen. Vegas will start normal then if i shut the program down and I go to restart it it will crash as in the video.

I have a AMD Radeon VII running AMD driver version 22.5.1. I was running the currant Pro driver and Vegas still would not start up most of the time. I have used KillAllVegas script and that does not help. I have Vegas Post 19 installed and that starts up with no crashes. I have used Revo Uninstaller to uninstall Vegas and reinstall, but that has not helped.

Windows 11 Pro, Ryzen 3900X, 64 GB DDR 4 3600mhz memory, Latest Asus X570 Pro BIOS.

PC is stable never crashes.

Any suggestions? Thanks

Can you post the error report at all including extra information by checking the boxes on any crash report you can access. Also you could try renaming the VST folder or move out the VST files to see if it will load.

The error report is posted. I tried removing the VST plugins, but when the Vegas splash screen got to searching for VST plugins Vegas splash screen just froze. I put the VST plugins back and now get the error report. Thanks

I did go into Preferences and disabled all of the VST plugins. ( All were Magix Plugins ) and Vegas still crashes trying to open with error report. If I do Shift-Ctrl VST plugins reload.

Its weird because Vegas will crash 4 times in a row, then on the fifth try it opens without Shift-Ctrl.

Sometimes, resetting Vegas Pro back to its factory/default settings can solve many problems. It might be worth trying. To do this, follow exactly the process outlined in https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-can-i-reset-vegas-pro-to-default-settings--104646/

Dexcon, that is the only way ( Shift-Ctrl ) I can start Vegas back up when it crashes multiple times. It will restart if I press Shift-Ctrl without checking delete all cached application data, and it will restart with the box checked.

I just reset Vegas ( Checked Box To delete all cached data ) Vegas restarted fine. I closed Vegas restarted it and it crashed with the same error report.

I am starting to think its something on my system conflicting with Vegas. My PC has no games installed, I use CCleaner Pro regularly. My PC never crashes. All other programs work with no problems. When I updated to Win 11 I just did a upgrade from Win 10. I am thinking of doing a clean install of Win 11, and format my drive?

But the funny thing is Vegas Post 19 ( Not 365 ) opens up with no crashes. I am having the crashes in Vegas Post 20, 365

I just noticed that the splash screen screenshot in your original post is stuck on Realtek ASIO. When Vegas Pro 20 opens, try changing the Audio Device in Options/Preferences to Microsoft Sound Mapper (or one of the other non-ASIO device types) and see if that resolves the problem. With many computers over many years, I've never had any success with the audio device being selected with the ASIO option even with Creative sound cards installed.

Happens to me also with vp20. Not all the time. But usually if I try again, right afterwards, it starts all the way. Doesn;t happen with vp19. I report it via the error screen every time.

I don't have any 3rd party vsts either. Ha, ha, maybe that's the problem. Be nice if they had a little checkbox somewhere to skip the vst scan for folks that don't use them.

Howard-Vigorita wrote on 9/10/2022, 10:42 AM

I just noticed that the splash screen screenshot in your original post is stuck on Realtek ASIO.

You're looking at the thumbnail of the video, not the point where it got stuck. Which was during the vst scan.

@Sassylola I googled sfvstwrap.dll, all i could find was info of what it does, how to replace it if it was missing or corrupted, but there were a few posts about how to remove it as it being malicious, no idea if that's got any truth to it but your CC Cleaner might not like it? If you can add Vegas to the exceptions list in Cleaner & any other anti virus software,

I'm on Windows 10, if n when i upgrade to Windows 11 it will be a complete new start, format of the hardrive & fresh install of the software i want. .

Musicvid wrote on 9/10/2022, 5:36 PM

Did you try the Refresh button? It does a deeper scan than occurs when the program is opened. Are your graphic drivers up to date? Use the Help menu to find out.

Sassylola wrote on 9/11/2022, 5:35 PM

After uninstalling Vegas Post 20 365 with Revo Uninstaller, I reinstalled Post 20 and when it got to the searching for VST plugins it would crash again with a error report. I sent the error report to Magix. After the report was sent the Vegas splash screen would not close and freeze, I had to use KILLALLVEGAS to close the splash screen

After looking at the error report and seeing that the sfvstwrap.dll was causing these issues, I deleted it and now Vegas opens with no crashes. BUT I have no VST plugins installed within Vegas now. I do not know if this will affect the stability of Vegas with this file deleted? but so far I am having no problems. I sent this to Magix support. Thanks for all of the help and suggestions. I may be running a crippled Vegas, but I never used the VST plugins anyway.

I've had VST STOPPED WORKING errors starting with VP19 643, it is possibly when they began the VST3 upgrades that is a feature of VP20

Howard-Vigorita wrote on 9/13/2022, 1:09 PM

Found another way to make it stop. Check the box for "Generic VST Editor", apply, and restart. The checkmark is still there after restart, it's just invisible. If you want the crashes back, just clear the invisible checkmark and apply again. This is probably a better workaround than deleting or renaming the dll... because it'll likely come back with every Vegas update.

Sassylola wrote on 9/13/2022, 1:42 PM

Howard, It did not work for me. I checked the box for Generic VST Editor, applied it, restarted. Vegas would crash multiple times when trying to reopen. I had to use Shift-Ctrl to open Vegas. So for me for now, deleting that .dll file is working for me.

Just for experimental reasons I unchecked all of the VST plugins, and checked Generic VST Editor and Vegas still crashed upon restart. Not just one crash multiple times until I have to use Shift-Ctrl. That .dll file is conflicting with something within my system.

This appears to be a known issue specifically with VST Wrapper and VP20. We are currently developing a fix for it but it will likely not be released until the next update.
