VEGAS POST 20 SUBSCRIPTION

Hi guys,

I just have been looking into a VEGAS Post 20 Subscription, even though I normally go the perpetual license route, but I just have a few questions. If there is a FAQ post that already answers these questions of mine, please direct me to them.

Firstly, I know with Microsoft Office that, with their subscription model, you pay a certain amount per year, every year, at the time that you started the subscription. So, I’m just wondering if the yearly subscription for VEGAS is like that. Or is it (the yearly subscription) a locked in yearly contract that you pay, for example in my case, AU$38.99 per month, that you, I assume, can only cancel near the end of the year vs the monthly subscription that you pay, in my case, AU$57.99 per month to month and, I assume, can cancel the subscription before the next month, if you so desire. If I have it incorrectly, please feel free to correct me. I’m just trying to clarify how the subscription model works.

Also, is it the case, and I assume it is, that, if you keep with the subscription, that you will get the future versions of VEGAS Pro whenever they’re released? I’ve read on here that someone, who was on a subscription of VEGAS Pro, had trouble going from VEGAS Pro 18-19. But it appeared that their trouble was of their own doing because they used two different email addresses.

Also, I heard on a YouTube (I know, not the most reliable source) video that VEGAS 19 was going to be the last version of VEGAS Pro and that MAGIX was just going to continually provide updates (I assume, kind of like how Windows 10 was going to be the last version of Windows and Microsoft was going to provide updates, but now we have Windows 11) for it but things changed, and now we have VEGAS Pro 20, is this true?

The first year is locked in at the rate stated- you either pay for the entire year at once or the entire year but pay a month at a time (paying all at once is cheapest). There's also month to month but that is more expensive. The price in year 2 is what it says the renewal rate will be. If you let it lapse you can't use Vegas anymore but can always resubscribe again when you want to.

If your subscription is active you are entitled to the latest release of VP. There's no real trouble going from one to another- just download it.

Re: VP 19 and 20 it's confusing and maybe Magix changed their strategy? While we have continuous releases now with major features coming in updates we still have a hard annual cycle. It would make a lot more sense for perpetual license customers if it were a rolling 12 months of updates from whenever you started. Maybe 20 will be the last? I hope so personally. 20's really a refinement of the last build of 19 in my opinion, as it should be with continuous delivery.

Vegas' website has some FAQs and the subscription arrangement which hopefully will help with most if not all of your questions:

https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/support/article/what-is-the-subscription-service--1639/ and

https://www.magix.com/us/support/subscription-service/faq/

A couple of things to consider: 1/ the subscription 365 Vegas Pro version only allows activation on 1 computer at a time (to activate on another computer, VP would first have to be de-activated on the first computer); and 2/ if/when subscription payments cease, so does access to the 365 version of Vegas Pro.

... VEGAS 19 was going to be the last version of VEGAS Pro and that MAGIX was just going to continually provide updates ,,, and now we have VEGAS Pro 20

I don't think that there has been any announcement about this, but it's a good question.

As I understand it there are 2 subscription options:

Annual which you pay at once even though the price is listed per month.

Monthly subscription is a bit more expensive but you pay monthly and it also renews monthly.

With 19 there were 3, 2 were annual and one monthly, but looking at 20 I only see 2 which is good as people got confused between monthly payments and a monthly contract.

@RogerS Indeed. We discussed the "meaningless option" of the annual (with monthly pay) subscription earlier this year in a thread where I quoted a MAGIX Sales response to my query about it. That seemed to indicate they were aware of the confusions.

Kudos to them for solving it as the Vegas packages are already confusing enough!
